MicroFiction: A 250 word story written using the word prompt "complain about nothing".
...During my lifetime, I've been accused on numerous occasions of complaining about nothing. What others don't seem to realize is that what's important to one person may not necessarily be on another's radar. I feel that any given situation can be placed on the irrelevant list according to its priority in a person's life. Just as individuals view an issue differently according to her subjective point of view. I share a story that involves two different points of view on a shared issue.
For my theme, I was inspired by and utilized the @daily.prompt's publishing of 4 october 2024, @mariannewest's Freewrite Writing Prompt Day 2515: complain about nothing.
Below is my story:
Despite overpowering noises from the mover with undertones of crunching grass and leaves as blades ground them into small pieces filtering inside, Antonia focused.
"Before you counter with the unsubstantiated assertion that I always complain about nothing, reassess your current situation." Nostrils flaring, Antonia's shoulders heaved.
Ozzie watched as she flung her hands, then moved swiftly toward the sliding glass door.
"Three years you promised. Still, no home; steady job; plans."
"I'm practicing residing in a tiny home. After we're married, we'll figure it out somehow."
Frowning, Antonio shook her head in disgust. Five years she'd waited, and Ozzie was no closer to being independent or self-sufficient enough to consider husband material.
"Are you kidding me living in a shed in your parent's backyard!" she hissed. For a long moment, she stared. It was when he garnered a twisted, sarcastic grin that she pulled off her engagement ring and set it on the table.
"I'm done. Perhaps you'll find someone willing to take care of a grown child in addition to any children and live with those terms. Good luck."
With that, Antonio rushed out the front door without looking back.
Ozzie scratched his head. Why some women complain about small stuff instead of life's really huge issues he couldn't fathom. He swung around, whistled loudly, then headed out the sliding door toward his luxury accommodations.
He ignored his dad sitting atop the lawnmover; instead concentrating on how much the pawn shop owner would offer him for the engagement ring.
