In this Week 42 of the ZAPFic50 Friday challenge, the prompt "abbey" brings to mind nuns and their lives. I wanted to reflect on this as an impressionable young girl hopes to one day become one of them.
Below is my story::
Dolores stood at the ornate gate. One day, she prayed, I'll be old enough to enter. Each year, the mystery of the cluster of buildings unfolded. She learned its history. She imagined modernizing the cells to reflect each occupant's personality. She'd make changes, she promised, once she became its abbess.
