I don't know about you but I've always loved digital art when I saw them, I never thought it was something around my scope or something I could try on my own as well. So some years back I stopped or should I say I paused my pencil drawing and decided to pick up digital art instead since I couldn't place my hands on the right tools and materials for pencil art and I didn't have professional tutoring on it, I ventured into digital arts rather.
Knowing fully well with just my devices here at home I can start up something or try something even if it was just a little.
Not that I gave up on pencil drawing or that I am losing hope, I still wish to be probably tutored with the pencil, the same goes for ink/pen drawing but for now, I think I want to focus more of my attention on digital arts.
The thing is, a friend of mine saw when I updated one of my digital works I did a year ago, she commented and told me she still likes my pencil art better and even said I should have worked more on my pencil art thereby mastering it and then add digital art to it.
Well, frankly, she isn't wrong, I mean you have to get better with the pencil to be able to do well with digital and not struggle I think.
But since I didn't master the pencil, I guess it's why I am having a little bit of challenge with digital art but I am still trying my best, which I know for sure I am.
She went ahead to dig up an old pencil sketch of mine, I did some years back and she said it was one of her favorite. Yeah even I did love that drawing, but looking at it closely, I knew if the same art was turned into a digital one, it would look even better and have more life in it.
I made the decision of re-sketching the pencil art she hunted for but this time, I did it digitally.
I couldn't tell how it would look or the result of the digital version of the same art but I did know it will be worth my time after all.
I finished the sketch of course and uploaded it on my status, majority complimented the digital piece more, just a few complimented the pencil art though they said both look pretty nice but the digital piece had more life in it and was also colorful. Even my friend confirmed this, that the digital version of the art was colorful and nice.
I am not disputing pencil arts, in fact, I love pencil and charcoal sketch but since I am not doing very well at that, I decided to pause it for a while until I get the right and proper tutoring on it.
Meanwhile, this piece is the art we used in making the comparison.
I would have shared the pencil version of this as well, but I just don't wanna drag that comparison game down this lane lol. So let's just say, your comment on this work will be very much appreciated, yes tell me what you think rather.
I've got so many work processes for this piece, that's because it took me a lot of hours to finish this up. I have shared a few of the steps.
Check them out below and please tell me what you think, thank you. I could really make use of your corrections and criticism as well.
