I’m so exited to share this career milestone of mine with you all! It had been a dream of mine to exhibit some of my creations for a long time and it came to actualization in November 2021.
My idea of what my first exhibition would look like was a solo exhibition, the work and funding needed kept holding me back for a long time so I decided to start with a group exhibition. I have no regrets.
The exhibition titled D’Gathering is an annual convention of creatives of all kinds; visual artists, poets, dancers, musicians and much more. It was a real experience!
I had a good time explaining the inspiration behind my creations to people, and there were many of them. Seeing them get on the same page with me and comprehend my inner thoughts was ecstatic.
I showed 4 pieces as seen in the image below, 3 pencil drawings and one painting namely:
- Dreamer
- King Kunta
- Son of the soil and…
- To make ends meet.
These pieces are all descriptions of my inner thoughts, expressing my state of mind at the moment of creation.
“To Make Ends Meet” 👇🏽 for example was created at a time when I considered the economic hardship sweeping across Nigeria, especially the staggering inflation rate. I thought of people who have to labor and toil everyday just to feed, sometimes barely, people like the man in the painting below. I took the reference photo myself years back and remembered it just when it was needed. I wanted to tell the stories of people like this, so those of us that have it better won’t be too relaxed until the roots of the problem are dealt with severely.
There were a few interviews, most notable of them was by a top tier TV station, LTV. There were shows and performances, lots of comedy and music.
They may not get to see this but I’m truly grateful to all my friends that showed up to support, especially my family. On to greater things! 🥂
Thanks for stopping by, truly appreciate it. Don’t forget to leave a thumbs up and share if you liked this.
