Hello. Since the contest is time sensitive and we receive a lot of entries we put a maximum word count on the stories. For simplicity and to save us from having to copy and paste each story into an online word checker, we generally include the entire article in that restriction (i.e. the story, sign offs, sources, greetings, intros...etc). I checked the count of your story and saw that it was 998 words but with all of the excess stuff it is 1121 words. The Peakd word count is all I really look at so for future entries please keep the article within 1000 words.

Other than that, it's a good story, though I'm having a hard time identifying the monster aspect in it.

Hello. Thanks so much for your response. I appreciate your thorough review. I didn't read the Rules completely so didn't realize it needed a monster added. That's why after publishing I didn't put my post into the comments as a valid entry. I realized my mistake. I also deleted the word count and reference to contest #7 in my footer.

Thanks for clarifying that the entire post is counted, not just the story word count. I'll adhere to your policy in the future.

I also appreciate that you took the time to read my story and that you thought it was decent.
