It's starting to look like something real!!! It's incredible how fast it's all going. I feel like it was just yesterday that I thought we needed to find someone to build a fun structure on our property with.
It's a big dream to have all sorts of alternative dwellings made from natural materials. We envisioned all types of different cabins built from natural, and upcycled materials, mixing old and modern methods.
We want a little cob building that looks like it's inhabited by some mushroom wizard, a bit like this one:
A round house made of strawbales with a reciprocal roof inspired by Japanese architecture.
A timber-frame that makes you feel like you're in a viking longhouse.
Though this one's more of a cruck frame structure... it is more of an anglo-saxon type of architecture, but you get the idea of what we're looking for here, and the vikings had their time with the English!
An earthship that brings you to some alien world that might as well have been designed by Dr. Seuss and George Lucas.
A bermed dwelling that is reminiscent of a hobbit hole, with a living roof, larger windows, and a view of the mountains.
The list goes on, and the building methods are even more numerous...
Somewhere in this project is the idea to create a sort of museum of alternative dwellings, ranging from ancient technologies (that sometimes work better than our modern ways) to what works today in terms of sustainability.
In this vision, the project is achieved through a learning center for unconventional building methods. We want to build each structure in a workshop setting. There is so much to learn in this field still, and yet a lot of it is knowledge from the past. Why mot do it as a group, meet new people, and have fun building in community?
Back to what I was saying earlier, I can hardly believe our first such building is becoming reality. This one isn't yet being built in a workshop setting, but now that the foundation is in, we should find some eager builders to come help.
This one's being built as an income maker. It's our hobbit hole inspired cottage. The plan is to rent it out as a short-term vacation spot, make some capital for the next one, and continue to build this dream.
Let me know what you think please, sometimes I doubt myself, I think we dream TOO BIG, and I need assurance from time to time!
