Crafty Pallet Bench

in #hive-150329 β€’ 2 years ago

My mother-in-law is crafty! No, I don't mean like that! I mean she is really good with arts and crafts! (Disclaimer: I really do genuinely love my mother-in-law πŸ˜‰)

In particular, she loves to mosaic things. All things, from pots to wheelbarrows. Her creations are all over the garden and they are simply lovely! When I read this week's prompt for the Proof of Brain photo contest, I immediately thought of one thing in particular. The Crafty Pallet Bench!

garden_bench_01

This garden bench was created using recycled wooden pallets. My mother-in-law then painted it and did some mosaic detailing, to create a truly unique and beautiful addition to the garden.

As you can see, the bench has been there for a few years and weathered a number of conditions that pallet wood is definitely not designed to withstand. When I asked her if she is not concerned her creation will eventually crumble away completely, her answer made me smile.

"No, the weathering helps give it character. And if it does eventually crumble away, I'll have an excuse to make something new."

Food for thought!
What we go through is part of who we are! And sometimes we cling so hard to the old, that we don't see it as an opportunity to let go and make space for something new. And not to mention the wonderful experience that comes with creating something new and beautiful.

I simply love the idea behind this bench, as these pallets could very well have ended up on a trash heap somewhere. Instead, they were recycled and beautified. Now they get to serve as a lovely spot to enjoy the sunlight for several more years. Not to mention the joy they brought in the creative process.

Mosaic is a little like making your own puzzle and puzzle pieces. And then putting all those tiny parts together to create something new and beautiful. And yes, this process does sometimes involve breaking tiles apart. More food for thought. Sometimes you have to break something apart, so you can create something even more beautiful from those pieces.

So next time you are feeling broken up, remember that! Put yourself back together in an even more beautiful way than before! And remember, weathering life's storms helps give you character!

Hahaha...I love your sense of humor!

Your mother-in-law is very artistic indeed! And a wise and very good lesson in life to go along with her creation!

Thank you for sharing that with us, @pixelhuntersam!

Why thank you @jacoalberts! Though my sense of humour can be a bit on the dark and dirty side sometimes πŸ˜‚ Then again, if it wasn't for the gutter my mind would be homeless and I would likely be insane or homicidal. I'm told it's a coping mechanism, but hey, there are worse coping mechanisms out there! πŸ˜‚

I get it...lol! But yes, humor can be a good coping mechanism...and we all need to survive, don't we?

This is simply lovely! What an artist she must be! Thank you for adding the life lessons. Such wonderful food for thought

She is quite creative and that's possibly why we get on so well because it is something we have in common. Though I will openly admit she has me beat on most fronts when it comes to crafts!

Really loving this! Very very beautiful!

My mom-in-law is extremely talented! There are all sorts of treasures like this in the garden. And there are roses and lavender too. We share a property, as she is getting on in years and my husband is her only child. To some that sounds like hell (cue mother-in-law jokes) but actually it has been very pleasant. She recently allowed me to take over part of the garden for vegetable planting. A big deal as she loves her garden dearly. But now both she and my husband are invested in the veggies. It has been a fun family venture, hehe.

I can see that she is, that must be very inspiring having her so close! I have lived with an ex boyfriend and his parents for a few years too, they were great as well so it was not like the average story about in-laws either :)

Enjoy the family fun! I really wish we had a garden but when we took this apartment, we were a bit on a deadline because of the summer rental prices knocking on the door already. Could have been much worse though and at least it's a spacious apartment. Next home should defo have at least a balcony but preferably a garden!

There are actually plants and even a few herbs which will grow indoors if you are desperate for some greenery. πŸ˜‰

Dear @pixelhuntersam, we need your help!

The Hivebuzz proposal already got important support from the community. However, it lost its funding a few days ago when the HBD stabilizer proposal rose above it.

May we ask you to support it so our team can continue its work?
You can do it on Peakd, Ecency, Hive.blog or using HiveSigner.

Thank you!

Oh I absolutely love this! We inherited some random furniture when we moved in here from the old tenants as well as some items from friends and family. I can think of a few that could look stunning with this decor! Lovely @pixelhuntersam!

My mother-in-law would very likely suggest a good brand of chalk paint and say have at it! I might die a little inside if you paint certain furniture though, for example well crafted old oak. To me, there is something special in well-looked-after wood. But naturally, only the good quality wood counts here. Otherwise, have at it! πŸ˜‰

Some of it is cheap chipboard and other items include a table that although made of good wood, was left to weather in the open. It was here when we moved in. It's not unsalvagable but it's going to need some serious tlc. We also adopted a coffee table from a friend. It survived a toddler so we'll need to sand off the ball point pen drawings/carvings but it will look nice with a good sanding and a good coat of varnish.
