One day our Haier refrigerator stops cooling and we do not know the cause of the problem.

With the help of our friend and searching on the internet we have figured out that the problem is the relay connected to the compressor.

It is called PTC Relay, it is working fine for only 5 seconds then stops working. Just what the Youtube video is explaining.

It is now working fine after changing this PTC, thankfully

What is PTC Relay?

One type of starting relay used on fractional horsepower compressors is the positive temperature coefficient (PTC) relay. It performs the same function as a current relay or potential relay but in a much different manner. A PTC relay uses a positive temperature coefficient thermistor to remove the start winding and/or start capacitor from the circuit. A PTC thermistor is basically a resistor whose resistance increases on an increase in temperature.

You were lucky here! Having to replace the compressor would have been much more expensive. Actually, probably almost as expensive as replacing the entire fridge...

Yeah, we are fortunate that it is not a very serious problem although the first mechanic gave us trouble that the main problem is a compressor which suggests us to buy a new refrigerator if that is the case. I learned that having a second opinion is not a bad idea at all especially now that we have global knowledge on the internet. Great to have you here buddy

I have been through this. When the compressor of my old fridge broke down, we indeed changed the full apparatus as the price difference between a new fridge and a compressor was quite small. Moreover, by fixing the compressor there was no guarantee on the lifetime of the fixed fridge.
