Good morning everyone,
How was our weekend? I hope it was lovely. Over the weekend I decides to make two palm slippers for my brothers as I've not even make any leather work in months. I've been dedicating most of my time into my art which has been productive but I decided to do something different last weekend. I realized my brothers had no palm slippers to wear anymore as their feet had outgrown the ones they had. So I got some really nice sole and with that I was able to create these lovely slides. I can not describe how happy they were when I finished making them cus they love it so much. The youngest won't even stop wearing it and showing it to everyone cus he loves it so much especially with the slightly elevated sole.
I decided to make them different designs. Initially, I wanted to make them same design which is the cross design but Mercy the youngest said he want something different and since I had cut the straps by then I had to work out something that will so with two straps. So I went with the design above for him and the design below for Henry the eldest.
MATERIALS USED
- Black leather
- Black sole
- Maco 6
- Soft black leather
- Designer leather
- Gum
- Fibre
PROCESS
- The first thing I did was to cut the straps and gum them with the leather lining. After that I cut the desired maco out and gummed it with fibre to make.it stronger.
- Next I gummed it with the leather.
- Here I filed the back of the insole to allow the gum to adhere firmly. After that I gummed the filed tip of the straps and last it to the insole as seen below.
- Finally I gummed the lasted insole with the sole together.
