Jeep wrangler yj Rebuild Painting job / Reconstruccion de jeep wrangler yj, trabajo de pintura
You can check here the first part of how this project started, the next after testing the engine and what was working (and what not) was taking it for a paint job, to be honest it was already looking good but my cousin and I got to an arrangement to split the cost of this, so it was a good deal (imo) and it would be better to check all the chassis and at the same time, get a new paint. Luckily it was completely rust free but it has some weird job with body filler (some kind of mass or resin to make the surface looks even), so the team at the shop decided to remove it all and make it right.
Puedes ver la primera parte de este projecto aqui, la primera parte de como empezó este proyecto, la siguiente después de probar el motor y lo que funcionaba (y lo que no) fue llevarlo a pintar, para ser sincero ya tenía buena pinta pero mi primo y yo llegamos a un acuerdo para dividir el coste de esto, así que era un buen trato (imo) y sería mejor revisar todo el chasis y al mismo tiempo, conseguir una nueva pintura. Por suerte estaba completamente libre de óxido pero tiene algún trabajo raro con la masilla de la carrocería (algún tipo de masa o resina para que la superficie parezca uniforme), así que el equipo del taller decidió quitarlo todo y arreglarlo.
After removing all the resin (body filler) it was time to straight out all the metal body parts, seal and weld any whole or any part uneven, this processes took longer than I excepted, not because it was a lot that needed to be done, but the worker showed up whenever he wanted, there is something funny that I heard a few times, in this garage shops they always need good sheet metal workers, which looks like they are rare and hard to find, so they accept from them some behaviors like sometimes not showing up for work, and also like a joke they told me that any good sheet metal worker is always an alcoholic 🤷♂, so is normal if they just disappear for a few days , anyway, thanks to this, the processes took a really good weeks before the could event start working on the paint.
Después de quitar toda la resina (relleno de la carrocería) era el momento de enderezar todas las partes metálicas de la carrocería, sellar y soldar cualquier parte entera o desigual, estos procesos tardaron más de lo que yo exceptuaba, no porque fuera mucho lo que había que hacer, sino que el obrero se presentaba cuando quería, hay algo curioso que escuché unas cuantas veces, en estos talleres siempre necesitan buenos latoneros, que parece que son raros y difíciles de encontrar, por lo que aceptan de ellos algunos comportamientos como a veces no aparecer para el trabajo, y también como una broma me dijeron que cualquier buen latonero es siempre un alcohólico 🤷, así que es normal que desaparezcan durante unos días, de todos modos, gracias a esto, los procesos tomaron un buen semanas antes de que el evento podría empezar a trabajar en la pintura.
And finally it was time to start polish, make everything even to start with the painting, I gotta be honest, my first thought was paint the jeep in matte black, which is (was) like a dream to me, I just love how the cars looks in that color, but the owner of the paint shop and my cousin weren't so sure that it was the right choice, since it looks like that is not only hard and expensive to maintain that paint, it needs special products to keep it at it should be and looking good, but it also any tiny imperfection, any scratch, or the most simple hit or bend it really noticeable compared to normal paint, even the sun can damage it faster, so after a little of research, I changed my mind and decided to paint it in a more traditional way, but for my luck the owner of the place showed me a black that it has like frost, like little white (kind of reflecting) particles when you look at it very close, it was a really nice looking paint, it was a blast, so that one was that we went for it.
Y por fin llegó el momento de empezar a pulir, hacer todo incluso para empezar con la pintura, tengo que ser honesto, mi primer pensamiento fue pintar el jeep en negro mate, que es (fue) como un sueño para mí, me encanta cómo los coches se ve en ese color, pero el dueño del taller de pintura y mi primo no estaban tan seguros de que era la elección correcta, ya que parece que no sólo es difícil y costoso de mantener esa pintura, que necesita productos especiales para mantenerlo como debe ser y se ve bien, sino que además cualquier pequeña imperfección, cualquier arañazo, o el más simple golpe o curva se nota mucho en comparación con la pintura normal, incluso el sol puede dañarla más rápido, así que después de un poco de investigación, cambié de opinión y decidí pintarlo de una manera más tradicional, pero para mi suerte el dueño del lugar me mostró un negro que tiene como escarcha, como pequeñas partículas blancas (tipo de reflejo) cuando lo miras muy de cerca, era una pintura realmente bonita, era una explosión, así que esa fue la que elegimos.
