Today's homestead project finds me back in the workshop for a couple of different reasons. One, it is nasty outside today, big storms rolling through. But the real reason is I am finally getting my 3D printers leveled, calibrated, and running my first prints!

This process was kind of a pain because, well, I got some bad advice from YouTube, but I ended up working it out in the end, just took some tinkering. I ended up downloading some files that a guy put up that helps you level the printer, but the issue was one of the little parts was not positioned quite right and was causing the print arm to not sit right when setting to the home position. I figured that out and finally got on the way to getting these printers leveled.

One of them did great, the other gave me some issues. After stepping back and taking a dab to calm myself down a bit, I figured out the problem and readjusted the part that was messed up in the original installation, and got that one working too!

The level setup files came with a print file that allowed me to run some test prints to see any weak and unlevel spots. The first printer was good to go after the first time leveling, but what I also learned is why the print bed came with some clips, haha. You have to hold the print plate to the actual moving bed or it will shift and throw your prints all off.

But all that is just part of the process in setting up these kind of things. I have never messed with them before so I am learning along the way. I am excited to get my first prints up and going for the farm! Now I just need to learn all the software that I have to learn to go along with it. Not to mention, now I have to learn CAD and 3D modeling... Something told me in my early 20's to learn CAD, haha.

Anyway, I am excited to get the Moss Rock Farms printer farm all up and running to start printing hydroponics gear to grow some food! It's a new journey and I want you guys along for the ride, so I hope you give me a follow if you like watching a dude figure stuff out so you don't have to, haha.

If you have an Ender 3 3D printer and want those auto leveling files, check out the following link:

Until next time...

Be cool, be real, and always abide my dudes!

That is super awesome. Really can't wait to see your further products!

Are you going to get any of the three in one printers show that you can do subtractive manufacturing as well as laser engraving?

Super awesome work! Love your post!

@futuremind this deserves to be in your group for 3d printing.

Na, I am going to chill with these for a while. My buddy is bringing me a 3rd tomorrow that I am buying from him, but after that I will be moving up into some bigger and better ones like the Bamboo labs printers that my buddy just upgraded his farm to. I have a pretty specific reason I bought these to use for farm things, so going to focus on that for a while. Might play with some other stuff as time goes on I am sure, but I need to buy more filament, lol. The stuff I bought really has specific uses. My bud is bringing me some random base PLA rolls tomorrow too that I can play and practice with.

Yeah I was seeing the filament tech is sweet too. There's machines that can melt and extrude your filament!

I'm excited and have to see what happens to the technology!

I'm impressed again man! Great job!

Oh I would love my own filament making machines, but they are fucking expensive! One day, maybe… I am about to start stacking filament like crazy. I am checking out these metal, wood, and stone filaments too. But they are pricey too, 😂

Good stuff man. Ender is a pretty reliable product line that should get the job done in fine fashion once you have it all tuned up nicely.
Best wishes for your upcoming hydroponics gear prints, hope everything goes smoothly for you.

The tuning is the not so fun part, lol. I am learning though... haha.
