Yes! I intentionally fit the head in the back part to be able to fit the straws for as long as it is possible.
Your version looks much more stable but I guess the head occupies almost the half of the length and there isn't much room for straws ;)

That works perfectly, I suppose, as the objects you photograph are very close to the flash.
