Building Lego's with my son... Patience is key. :)

I love Lego's....
Such simple geometric rectangular blocks so simple in form can open up so much creativity and imagination with those bricks when combined.

I love to gift Lego's to kids.
There was never a time when a kid does not smile when gifting a Lego set... Ever since I was a child I really enjoyed building Lego's with friends together and often received Lego's for my birthday gift. Maybe that is why when it comes to kids I like to gift them Lego's. What really makes me happy is when I see the smiles on their face. Kids can really express their feelings without any contamination and I have been really enjoying that. Here is an example when I gifted some Lego's to my son and his cousin... funny guys.

Kids and Lego's
I am a firm believer in our near future the competing edge of what will be valued is our ability to manifest creativity. The ones who knows how to think differently will win. All other stuff will be taken care of Ai. As a result, I had my child play with Lego's at a very young age. Its very interesting to see him build... his eyes is in the zone. Totally just focused on the process of how something that looks so difficult can get built.

SonLego_01.jpg

I love working with Lego's.
As a designer there are so many times when I don't understand how the underlying mechanism work. Then a box of Lego's help get the brain to visualize it more easily. One of our class back in college for motorcycle design Lego frame building was essential due to the fact that motorcycles function follows form.

Life with Lego's
When I really think about it the way how our live works in some ways are not too much different than the Lego manuals we see... We go to the Lego store and check out what to build... on the front of the box we see is the dramatized version of the completed result.

IMG20191019213839.jpg

Dream Big with Lego's
Whenever I see the result of some large builds I tend to ask myself "how did I build that?" At the same time I ask a similar question when I as a kid when I saw Legos that had huge a box "How can I build that?".

How can, how did, how could... is when we see anything in the world around us when something built like the Pyramid of Giza for instance to accomplish such feat is out of reach from our capability perspective. I believe there is a place of uncertainty in our minds that we fear in our lives when we try to make big decisions but we tend to ignore that the process to accomplish anything big or small is exactly the same way as how we build Lego's... Brick by Brick.

challengelego.jpg

Organizing Lego
I am an individual that needs to organize what I have in front of me. From my desk to my projects I feel much more efficient when doing so. This goes for Lego's even more so... its really annoying when a small piece needs to be found inside an ocean of other Lego's. I tend to take more time looking for parts than building them.

missing.jpg

Not much changed with Lego
The best part about Lego's is that fundamentally nothing changed! My wife has saved all her Lego's she owned and placed them in storage in Taiwan and one day I see a bunch of Lego's organized in color set up for the kids to play. She mentioned to me that those Lego's are the very ones we used and played with when we were kids. Those Lego bricks fit the new Lego bricks as well... Amazing consistency. I guess in this case the best evolution for Lego is NO evolution.

family make.jpg

It has stood the test of time and therefore what I have been building is now available in the same exact way to my kids. I was curious to find out if my son would like Lego's just as much as I do since he shares half of my DNA I wonder if personality traits of interest in same hobbies also applied the same way. In actuality we really dont know.... but I think it does. :)

Sleeping with Lego
My wife actually caught this in action. Due to the difficulty the Porsche and Ferrari has for building to boost my sons confidence I told him I will stay next to him and just watch until he might mess up so he can ask me to see what went wrong.
legosleep_01.jpg

The next thing that happens is...
legosleep_02.jpg

The best Lego's are not built in one day.
My son wants to build things in one day and sometimes I can see his frustration that rises when things dont go as he thought it would. I think these are the times where you can tell him to cool down and give the brain a Lego break... tomorrow try it again. He at first doesn't think it would matter and I tell him always. "Bro.... trust me." The next day comes around and with a more calm and fresh awoken morning mind he was able to backtrack and get it to work. Even for me and everyone... if things don't work... just lay it down... go somewhere else. Come back tomorrow. It helps.

Consistency and Persistency + Knowledge and Wisdom
If Lego has taught me anything in my life its the knowledge built by 35+ years of Lego building. This knowledge has become confidence, and the confidence shifted into wisdom to share it with others like my son that maybe life is just like a set of Lego...

"Dream big, although a big Lego set may look challenging try and take a leap... go for it. You may realize its not as smooth operator as you thought... the pain of messing something up and going back 20 steps back to fix the problem... the process of building is not always hard times... sometimes things just work and clicks perfectly smooth and we begin to see the whole thing come alive. After you have finished the Lego set... you also want to show it to others your accomplishment... Go ahead and show it off to your fullest, since it has been done honestly on your own. You deserve it. alright on to the next one." :)

"Good Job Son."

Awesome job Whangster! How old is your son btw?

Those cars look pretty awesome, I would like to build them myself.

We got some Lego for my now 5 year old but he is too small for some of the complicated stuff, but hopefully he can tackle a project like this one day. Thanks for the inspiration.

Hellz yea!~ :) I am happy that I can inspire you through this for your kid. My son is now 9 years old. You can start training your child at 5~ just give them a bag of legos with no manual and play along with them. They will learn super fast... then step by step show them ones with the manual...

You get to see a lot of personality traits while watching em. Because the curiosity, the struggle, the relief, the accomplishment feeling will all show in the process. Better than school text books in my opinion. hehehehehe

The most important part is being there with him as he builds. It get freakin boring at times but its an important factor. Cheers!!!

My daughter has the whole Lego Friends sets that she has built so I can totally agree with you there, although I am more interested to make cars and stuff with my son. We have done the police and fire stations which aren't so complicated, but the sports cars like this I am looking forward to.

Good luck with the next lego project. hehe

Oh dude~~ so you have a son and a daughter. :) I have a 9 year old son and a 5-6 month old daughter. she is so cute to play with. hehehe. But not old enough for Lego's yet. Can't wait to try Lego with tree houses and stores and play make believe. heeeeeee~
For my son he likes the Robots and Cars especially Technic because there are moving parts that even amazes me too. So we both like it.

Lately I have been interested in the Lego Architecture stuff where they have famous buildings and landmarks around the world. I am thinking if I should build them.... hmmmm.

Cheers!

A great post mate, I'd build Lego with you any day...as long as there were snacks on hand!

There's that Porsche again, I need to get me that one...but need to finish my 2022 McLaren F1 first I guess.

Thanks man!!~~ hahahaha~ Yes snacks....mmm I feel like having some right now actually. The Porsche proportion wise its a pretty cool Lego to have, but yes one at a time~ I got my son both Ferrari and Porsche at the same time and I was going back and forth in the beginning and I understand why too. They both look cool but only got one body and two hands... mind goes everywhere. :)

The McLaren looks pretty cool~ I haven't seen that yet here. Should check it out at the Lego store next door.

Man on the side note, you are an absolute trooper with Hive community blogging I am trying to catch up and I see your post on WorkLife~~ Nice man! You have some skills knowing how to multitask cause right now I feel like I am acting like my son with 2 Lego sets on hand. back n forth~~

Cheers!!!

Lego is life.

Well, it's part of life for me, and I think should be for everyone because it's just so bloody awesome. I'll probably build stage two of the Maclaren this weekend and I'll do a progress post as well.

I really want this one, (image from Amazon), but I'm struggling to justify the money shown below in AUD. It'll happen though, I'm not one to let awesomeness slip by. If you haven't seen it, check this beast out on YouTube.

It was a pleasure to post in your new worklife community and I'll do so again as I talk about my work from time to time.

Lego is life indeed. I can't say its just a hobby... I see some people really put their heart and soul into this. Also I believe it has been with us for such a long time I actually think it is a part of who we even are... I bet if we speak a different language we probably can communicate with Lego. 😂

and Jeeeezuss I just checked it on Amazon but this looks like some serious business here.... 7 Benjamins +.....

legoex.jpg

but can't go wrong with 4,108 Pieces either... that is quite some chunk there too... but main question remains.... where the hell am I going to put that thing. LOLZ.

The language of Lego! 😂

Yep, working out where to put them when built is a problem all good Lego builders should have. ✅

Legos are so good for kids to let their imaginations run wild and create whatever they can think of. My son played with Legos for a long time and I really think it helped him think differently about how things work and how they are built. Your kids ended up building some pretty awesome cars.

Ahhh now I know you have a son too~ :) Lots of good stuff I discover the more time flows in the community. Nice~~ and yea in the beginning I just gave em a pile of lego and he mix and matches with his imagination and loves to show off after building a plane or a house. I like it when kids like to come to you to show off their creation... its obvious what they want from you. :) and I wish I can give it to all kids.... Good Job!~~~

These kits ae seriously awesome and it is a great bonding time with the kids. Who knows maybe your kids will want to go into engineering or something in the future because of these builds.

Thanks~ I hope my kids can find and discover something they love to do. If they can through Lego. wow then i am blessed. :) hehehe

I am curious what would playing with lego be like with girls. lets find out several years later. Cheers~~

I'm seriously impressed that he can build those sets at his age, they are certainly not simple sets at all

There were a lot of errors he made and what I did was look at the manual, find the error, and go back and disassemble to that step and let him do it again. Took a lot of trial and error however I can say thay he did build it on his own.
However Stickers I out them on. Because at his age he applied them way too out of place from past experience so I placed all the stickers. hehehehe

There's nothing better than quality time with family, my friend. Haha, and it makes me happy to see you having so much fun doing it. Looks like the little whangster did everything right. That smile is priceless. I hope he always smiles like that. Have fun while playing with them!

Hahaha~ Yea that smile right? I asked him to give me the best smile ever and that is what he does~~~ hehehehehe. Kids... funny guys. He did everything right after we went backward several hundred times as well. LOLZ
and your right family time is the best investment... nothing can go wrong no matter how much you put in. Cheers bro.

Awesome post. Great pictures, wonderfully presented and captioned. I loved that format (is it done on Canva?).
Kids never forget these kinds of father-son activities. I started with my son when the Bionicle robots came out, then we worked on a Harry Potter scene. My son did most of the work. He was very good at it. Fond memories for sure.
Congrats on your Lego projects and your beautiful family.
Blessings.

Hey @hlezama ! Thanks for your kind comment.
I just use photoshop to crop, enhance colors, give them titles. I have been using photoshop for such a long time (20 years maybe? damn) I just use that software for pretty much anything visual. I hope kids can understand that after all we are all kids at heart. :) It really does take some patience trying to teach them a difficult model by being with them and guiding them from start to finish... that was not easy.. hehehehe. and I hope he will remember it too.
thanks!

This post, excellent as it is almsot got downvoted for the use of the word "Lego's"! As an anally retentive, grumpy and persnickety old man, I am easily triggered lol...
https://thebrickparent.com/what-is-the-plural-form-of-lego-its-not-legos/

To be fair to me however, even Lego themselves say it's wrong.

I love the motorcycle and what a lovely family you have mate.

Best wishes to all of you and keep up with the top drawer content.

Lego's indeed......

Oh my gosh!!!~ I was completely wrong the whole time!!! Hahahahahah! Hey thanks for the article, I really appreciate that. You get my full upvote for fixing what I have done wrong all this time. :)

Thanks for the awesome comment!

Bruh, Absolutely Awesome Gift in this era and truly need to bring more awareness like seriously these activities are dying slowly and we need to start reviving it.

I still remember the happiness back then when I had Got my First gift and started building it. Not only it makes one happy but also a sharp and strong mind, curiosity of finding a way to build and solving. it is something where kids who use smartphone lacks.

The ones who knows how to think differently will win. All other stuff will be taken care of Ai.

This bro! Couldn't agree more.

Good Job dude and a lovely family indeed. More blessings and Good wishes for you and your family.

Keep smiling and Have fun!

I guess we all have a memory of Lego bricks. Its really amazing how Lego evolved into something much bigger than itself.

Thanks for the comment~ I hope to bring more good stuff for you to read. :)

For real, these are unforgettable memories and experience of our.

Helloo! whangster
Lego is a good pastime always.Spending time with kids has a great impact on there lives; not everyone has time to do that.I have seen people left kids alone and the parents go out looking for money.

I always appreciate people who love spending time with their children.Kudo to you..

Your boy finally assemble the car in the 2nd day.
Your suggestion worked out.Yeah we sometimes fetch difficulties to solve a problem, got stuck. A fresh start next day must help to get it done.

Hey~ Spending time on Legos with kids kind of feels like I am a child once again... as a matter of fact it does put me in the same mentality as I was building it when I was a child now that I think about it. Its pretty interesting indeed that in that moment I feel that me and my son are equals in age. But in reality, he is much better than I am, I get very surprised as he grows.

Oh and my son didn't finish the Porsche in 2 days. It took some time because of its difficulty and also other distractions. Time wise I say it took about a week. :) We got stuck often... I had to figure out where the error was in the build and disassemble it. LOLZ

Yeah wit of a son goes one step ahead than his father.Because son genetically got the intelligence of his father and the son gathers more from the environment he lives. Thus the advancement of human civilization comes here from less devloped origin.

There always be a child inside a father....otherwise you can company your son...lol. Actually human being can change himself according to the environment.
Fascinating!!.

You are a good father..Kudos to you.

Thanks man~ Deserves an upvote. :)

Thanks ..lol

i never had LEGO myself , but when i was playing at friends house and they had LEGO i was always building something.
I also was a big fan of meccano and never got to really play with that , i did get Sio Montage for some strange reason.
I also remember getting a racetrack on a birthday , and my father and grandfather where playing cause i could break it .... yeah right 🤣 Any way glad to see your son can builld on his own, just wondering since you have 2 models can you switch parts like put the front of the porsche on the ferari ? or is this so far customised that it ain't no longer possible to switch te blocks.

Sio Montage~ I remember having something similar and they were in metal. I wonder if its the same but a knock off. Thanks for the comment man~~ I am proud he can build on his own now.
Can I switch parts around from the two cars? I am pretty sure you can... but it will look very Frankenstein due to the fact both cars proportions are completely different.... and I dont think my son will like it.... or... maybe I should do it and show it to him? nawwww.. he gonna cry. LOLZ
