Hello my loving Asean Hive community,
Welcome to my new post. Today I made a dessert that I have not eaten for a long time. The dessert I made today was Sticky Rice Balls. Have you ever made your own Sticky Rice Balls or eaten at a restaurant?
I think you already know that Sticky Rice Balls is a Chinese dessert. Sticky Rice Balls are also a popular traditional food in our country and are often used in New Year celebrations. Sticky Rice Balls have the same name but slightly different ingredients. Sticky Rice Balls used in Myanmar new year mainly use sticky rice flour, coconut and jaggery.
Burmese sticky rice balls and Shan sticky rice balls in my area have slightly different ingredients. Shan sticky rice balls do not use coconut and palm jaggery does not use solids. And few people use jaggery, and most use brown slab-sugar. Brown slab-sugar is also used as a liquid. For today, I ran out of palm slab-sugar, so I used palm jaggery.
Shan sticky rice ball uses bean flour instead of coconut. There are two types of bean flour in our country: cooked and uncooked. Cooked is used to make Shan sticky rice ball. Isn't it a little strange for you to use bean flour instead of coconut? Even with the use of bean flour, the taste is very good. Let me first mention the other ingredients I used.
The Ingredients
- sticky rice flour
- cooked bean flour
- palm jaggery
- water
Step-1
I used only four ingredients to make this Shan sticky rice ball. First, I knead some sticky rice flour with a little water.
Step-2
Using a little sticky rice flour, I made a lot of small balls. If the sticky rice flour mixed with water is soft, it can be a little difficult to form a sticky circle.
Step-3
I put the water in a pan and heated it. When the water boils, I put all the sticky rice balls in the water and boil them.
Once the sticky rice balls appear on the surface of the water, all of them can be removed from the water. Sticky rice balls tend to harden when sticky rice balls are removed before they appear on the surface of the water.
Step-4
When cooked bean flour is in small cups, it is difficult for me to use. This is how I put all the bean flour into a plate. I put all the sticky rice balls out of the water into the bean flour.
I roll the sticky rice balls with a spoon so that the bean flour sticks to all surfaces of the sticky rice balls.
Step-5
I glued the sticky rice balls with the bean flour to a stick. Shan sticky rice balls sold in the market are not sold on sticks. I chose this method for decoration. I attached four sticky rice balls to one stick.
Step-6
I boiled the palm jaggery with a little water until it boiled. If you have brown slab-sugar, it is better to use it. This is because bean flour is more compatible with brown slab-sugar.
Now I got delicious and easy to make Shan sticky rice balls. It's easy to make and does not require a lot of ingredients. So if you want to try Shan sticky rice ball that uses bean flour instead of coconut, you can easily try it at home.
Some people use a little bit of melted palm jaggery when eating this Shan sticky rice, but I use it a lot because I like sweets. Below are some pictures of Shan sticky rice that I took.
That's all for today. Thank you so much for reading my post to the end. 🍇
