My poor love woke up this morning and could barely move. Gotta respect the guy - at 52 he can still move wheelbarrows of crush rock with the best of them, and lift heavy pieces of wood. I'm currently trying to prevent him taking on a THIRD project. As I write this, he's in the bath with some epsom salts.
With the wee amount of cash Dad gave us (part of his compensation for asbestos lung) we have been getting materials for the garden. New toppings for the paths was well overdue... There were so many weeds growing through and it looked terrible. Jamie also widened and lengthened the path a bit in places and moved the mulch and dirt back from the rock edge (that's local volcanic rocks) and wheelbarrowed in a thick layer of Tuscan topping, known for its warm look.
I think it looks fantastic - I'm so happy with the results! Last time we had grey crushed concrete which was cheap but it really wasn't as pretty. We are NOT letting the chickens out of their coop from now on - we'd like the path and the garden to stay nice, thanks. Jamie is also going round mulching it - if only my hip was better so I could help.
He is also gradually working out the frame for the back deck. He found the reason the back door wasn't shutting probably as there should be a stump there but there isn't, so he had to jack up the house and fix that first. The deck will be epic though..so excited. The main bits of framing are done. Should be done by end of the week with any luck.
At least the frame is done!
Meanwhile, I planted a few lavenders and some natives. Note the wire around them to stop the rabbits eataing them before they get big enough. One day I'll have rabbit proof fencing - now that'd be amazing. You can see the quince in flower in the shot below, as well as the rhubarb starting to grow, and calendula.
The iris is about to bloom.. I always get excited about them. I forget which colour is where and then I move them around. Usually they bloom and the wind comes and knocks em over. Them's the brakes. I might get some canes and stake these as I really do love them. I think they're maybe yellow - or white? Hahaha who knows. YOu'll know for the next garden journal.
And it's definitely Spring .. the artichokes are out!
With Love,
