In the garden: it keeps on giving

"This is why we do it!"
"Do what?", I hear you mutter.
"This is why we do home gardens; for the pleasure of eating freshly picked products which we planted."

The healthy salad
The pleasure was all mine with the recent salads. I was enjoying so much that I almost forgot to make photos.

I've been harvesting tomatoes, courgettes(zucchinis), bell peppers and various lettuce leaves for salads.

I made a simple salad dressing. I often use lemon but I like this dressing as well. It compliments the ingredients of the salad without overwhelming them. I usually eye-balled the recipe -it is basically 1/3 oil to vinegar. Although, this is about gardening - here is the simple recipe.
Ingredients:
300 ml extra virgin olive oil
100 ml white wine vinegar
celtic sea salt to taste
a pinch of black (if desired)
Mix/shake well to emulsify.

I sliced up the courgette thinly with a mandolin, poured a bit of the dressing over them to "satuee" them. Thereafter, the rest of the ingredients were added. This simple salad is a great accompaniment to any lunch. (Eating courgettes in this manner rather than cooking - ensures that there's still nutrients left in the vegetable.)

The giving garden
Last time, I talked about the incessant rain we were experiencing. Now we are having a heatwave with temperatures of 29-31 degrees Celsius. Nothing we can do about it - just takes it as it comes. The plants are happy and thriving in the sun.

From the salad, you can see that I have been harvesting many vegetables.

The tomatoes are ripening quickly. They are mildly sweet - so tasty enough to eat by themselves as snacks.

The **bush tomatoes **which produces these yellow tomatoes are heavy-ladened and grow close to ground. They provide many mild tasting tomatoes.

The courgette is "trained" to grow upward along the trellis.

It is doing well. Look behind leaves.

They are still a few there and more to come.

The butterbeans were finally growing. However, when I was not paying attention aphids took over the plants.

When I first spotted them - I was hoping the lady bugs would get rid of them. They did not eat them fast enough. As they were growing in the table garden, next to the courgette - I decided to removed all 8 plants.

The cucumbers and lettuce are still doing well.

However, something seems to be enjoying some of the green bell peppers.

I am willing to share - since there are still some left.

The potatoes are looking well. Soon it will be harvest time again.

I planted 1 purple kale seed. The plant grew and is looking healthy in the sunshine. I will add a few extra plants to garden.

On this colourful note, I will end my garden update. I am grateful that my home garden has done so well thus far this season.

I am so happy with my little "oasis" in the city.

All photos are my own.

Amazing! I heard similar news from my family in The Netherlands: ( veggie ) gardens are, not surprisingly, doing well this year. 'Global warming' has its advantages too ;^)

Aww - yes indeed. First we had rains now lots of sunshine. Good combination for a bountiful harvest. I am truly enjoying my daily harvest this season - pure joy.

You have a beautiful garden I love how the salad was made. All the pictures are so beautiful ❤️ Weldon Momo

Thank you @moremoney - the salad is simple but tasty.

Wow! That's a nice harvest! I didn't know you could lead zucchini up a trelli.
Mine are crawling all over the soil.

Aww thank you. Yes I was happy that it is possible that the courgette plan can climb. I do not think it is a special variety either. Last year, I did not do it correctly and it took over my table garden. I started earlier this year with attaching the stem to the trellis. Next time I will also use a sturdy long stick for extra support.

The salad over there is much different than the ones we have here, just cabbage, carrots, cucumber and sweet corn, add a lot of cream and we all good to go.. guess you guys dont use cream in your salad?

The dressing I used was as simple as they come in order to enjoy the freshness of the vegetables. However it could have been a creamy dressing or any other. Basically it is as you like it and with whatever you want to add it to. My salad shows vegetables from my garden.

Ohhhh in that case you like your salad without cream,/?☺️☺️

This is a common problem with all the beans they are very hard to remove.

Are you referring to the aphids? I removed all the plants -I did not want to fight the pest.

Yes, the aphids.

It is a beautiful garden <3 you have worked really hard to grow it.

It was a pleasure so it did not feel like work.

your tomato looks GREAT!
and what a fresh, tasty looking salad.

I too, am getting some nice courgettes (Green zucchini) and some yellow squash!

Aww thank you. That is great. I wish I could plant squash but being a city dweller - I only have my balcony garden.

I grow my squash and zucchini, in fabric grow bags. I bet you could certainly grow some on your balcony, too.

It's all worth it when you sit down for dinner! Glad to hear everything is going well in the veggie garden - I was worried about the heat a little!

Absolutely- yes it is worth it for the lovely taste.
I have started watering the gardening early morning and late evening.

Wow looking beautiful garden

Many thanks - can you believe that it is all on my balcony/terrace at home. I am so happy that I started 3 years ago.
Thanks for dropping by.

I love seeing these harvests and all that you have created with the produce!!

Many thanks @libra.gardener

What a wonderful garden! I am truly amazed of everything you have there my dear friend. I am craving for the salad and I so love the freshness. Have a nice time!

Aww thanks for your lovely comment. This is all from my balcony/terrace garden -it gives me a lot of joy.

You have a good fertile soil. ^_^

You have a beautiful and colorful garden. I admire your care and love towards your garden. The weather has been nice towards them as well but those aphids were naughty lol.

Thanks for sharing.
