Stunted but Fruity, this is the Chayote

As far as I recall, I began growing Chayote a few months ago. However, my pet rabbits ate some of their leaves and branches, causing a delay in their growth and the development of new leaves and branches.

Last year, I planted three Chayote seeds, but now there are only two left. I discovered that the roots of the plant were spreading rapidly and there wasn't enough soil to sustain all three, so I decided to remove only keep two.

This photo below was taken on March 16, 2022, and it's evident that the Chayote on the right is growing more lushly compared to the one on the left, which is sparser, and the one on the back, which is thin. This is a result of the soil lacking sufficient nutrients and being too compact."

However, my first Chayote plant produced many fruits that I distributed to my friends and neighbors.

In the bottom picture, you can see the most recent photo of my new Chayote. As previously mentioned, its stunted and slow growth is due to my pet rabbits.

Despite its small size or stunted growth, the plant has produced small flowers and fruit. It just needs proper watering and calcium supplementation to support its blooms and fruit development.

Probably in March, its fruits will be big and can be harvested.

Currently, I have many ideas and tasks running through my mind that I would like to pursue, but my limited time and busy work schedule at the office make it challenging to accomplish everything.

I had hoped for more chayote this year but wierd weather so it may not happen. The vines are robust though.

It takes a long time for it to bloom or bear fruit, about 3 months before it blooms and bears fruit. ^_^

Chayote in our place is a bit expensive. It's different if you have a lot at home. Aside from you can save, you can also sell to the market or your neighbors. Blessed is the man who works so hard in the garden. ☺️

I would like to sell it but I prefer to share it with my friends and neighbors. Now I'm just waiting for my pumpkin fruit to get bigger and as usual I'll share again. 😁

Wow you're a kind neighbor. God bless.

Hello

Ha ha, I love the title of your post.

Rabbits are one of my favorite animals in the world, even though they eat the chayota leaves, they are very naughty, I have never seen what a chayota bush looks like, I always see the fruit but not the rest, I hope you manage to fix the problem caused by the naughty furry friends and can give you many fruits so you can share again among friends and neighbors. ✈️🐇

Thanks a lot! It's good that I got your attention with the title of my blog. I can't think of a good title. Hahaha.

My only problem will be my pet rabbits when I go on vacation.
