Hello everyone and all members of Hive Garden Community, how are you friends today? May we all always be given health and happiness in carrying out this work and life. Health and happiness are the two most important things for our life and are interrelated with each other.

As usual, every Monday I always share stories about my gardening activities at home. I have the activity of growing various vegetables in a hydroponic installation at my house. There are 1400 hydroponic planting holes that I have with various media such as using PVC pipes, Styrofoam etc. Gardening is a fun and profitable activity, we get happiness when the vegetables that are planted grow well and also earn money from the harvest of these vegetables.

The weather in this period March 28, 2022 to April 4, 2022 is still very hot and but it is starting to rain. At this time, I also started fasting and it might seem like my activities are heavier than usual days. All vegetables have shown progress compared to last week.

Lettuce 28 Days After Sowing

I grow lettuce in about 180 planting holes on my balcony. Lettuce doesn't grow well if it's exposed to too much sun. Leaf lettuce is very easy to damage and burn when it gets too much sun. All the lettuce that I grew grew uniformly and none of the lettuce had any delays in growth.

Lettuce is different from other vegetables. Lettuce requires less fertilizer when compared to other vegetables. For comparison, lettuce requires 800 ppm, pakchoy and mustard greens require 1000-1400 ppm, and spinach requires 1200-1600 ppm. To be honest, this lettuce is very profitable to grow, its production cost is lower than other vegetables. I also spray to prevent pest attacks that often occur when the weather is hot.

Besides the lettuce I put on the balcony. I also have about 60 lettuce which are smaller and also growing very well and growing uniformly.

Kangkong 18 Days After Seedling

Kangkong is a vegetable that I always grow in my hydropnic installation. This vegetable is easy to grow and develop, besides that the growing period is very short and is also liked by many people. Kangkong is also this vegetable, if you see I don't use a transparent roof in all media for kangkong.

Whether true or not, kangkong grows better when exposed to rain. It seems, I will harvest this kangkong in the next few days. If it is too long in hydroponic media, kangkong will grow too big and be less attractive to consumers. Weather that is too hot sometimes makes the color of the leaves of this vegetable slightly change.

Pakchoy 14 days after sowing and 21 days after sowing

There are two different ages of growing pakchoy in my hydroponic garden. Actually, I've planned for one planting age. But last week, I was asked by a government agency to help provide vegetables or vegetable seeds for the exhibition. As a result, I had to replant to make up for the shortfall.

The pakchoy that I plant grows very well, I use liquid fertilizer with a solution concentration of 1000-1100 ppm. For your information, when growing vegetables with a hydroponic system in Styrofoam media, we must help stir the water in the media. The goal is that there is no deposition of fertilizer and all the minerals from the fertilizer can dissolve completely.

My plan is that I will harvest this pakchoy during Eid al-Fitr. It has become a habit in our family to distribute vegetables when guests come to visit during Eid al-Fitr. There are about 27 days left, and I'm sure the pakchoy will be ready by then.

First Harvest of Mint Leaves

For the last 3 weeks, I have been replanting mint leaves and finally I can do my first harvest. I harvested as much as 200 grams for this harvest. We can harvest mint leaves all the time, as long as we harvest it properly and correctly.

I have to learn from the experience in the last month, all the mint leaves I have were destroyed by caterpillars and pests. I can't do anything to prevent that from happening. This time, I sprayed the garlic solution twice a week. Hopefully there will be no more excessive pest attacks for this plant.

I always love your hydroponic crops, and I am still dreaming of setting up my own. Good evening!

thank you for stopping by my friend
I always support you to try to get started.

You're welcome (^_^)

Hi @isdarmady, you might not realize it but you have inspired me to do hydroponics from reading your previous posts. A friend recently gifted me with a starter kit because all of her crops were destroyed by the typhoon. She was cleaning up and decided to hand over fertilizer bottles and some extra growing cups. I still need to find a styrofoam box to get started. Seeing the growth of your healthy produce is inspiring!

thank you for stopping by @discoveringarni
I am very happy because my writing and my experience can provide information and also inspiration for all of my friends.

I'm sorry that your friend's plant was destroyed by a typhoon. But there's always a rainbow after the storm.

You can also start with plastic bottles, it's a bit of a hassle but can be tried for beginners.

My apologies for the late reply, I thought I did. I'm grateful for the info and inspiration you provide in your posts. Just purchased coco peat to start sowing seeds. Thanks for the tip on using plastic bottles.

keep the spirit friends, I'm sure you can do it.

Thank you, have a nice Sunday!

As always looking super healthy. Really like the color of the lettuce.

With the mints you just keep taking leaves the plant will stay alive?

thank you for stopping by
if you do the right harvest, mint leaves continue to produce well

Wow, @isdarmady I must commend you for this feat you are pulling off. Hydroponics, I have only been seeing them - those pictures on google- that I thought it could just be a theoretical thing but now I see it clearly. Thanks for the privilege. By the way, I'd like to ask, isn't this going to be more expensive to run than normal land planting? And what other advantages do you think it has over the latter?

thank you for stopping by @temibot
Thank you also for the message and attention to my hydroponic writing.
Hydroponic installation costs are indeed more expensive when compared to conventional farming on the ground. However, I use a lot of used Styrofoam and used pipes so the cost is cheaper.
