Hi to all my fellow gardener, how are you today?
it is September now time to take some picture in my mini succulents garden. In this content i want to share how fast my Dorstenia plant in my mini garden. feels like overgrown i guess but i am like it the way this plants grows. Very lustfull and having beauty top view.

See?? It is like palm tree from top view.
When entering dry season in my country with the high sunlight this plants will overgrow like this. But still need to do regular watering twice or three times a week.

Before i am forgot i want to tell you that the seed of the Dorstenia is like the picture above you can see in the right side of the flower that look like sunflower. that is the seed that want to pop out, and as you know this seed will pop out like popcorn so i dont know where to go for the seed, and i am not want to collect it on purpose. I think bugs like ants, fly, bees, can help to make the seed grow. and i can guarantee it will grow in my backyard.

But some of my Dorstenia plant still dry and need water more like this picture

DSC_0001.JPG

Many dry leaf and the body is not bulky. This condition is need more water. but, i can say this plant need water in morning before the sunlight is very hot or evening when the sun goes down, if watered at noon or when the sun light is very bright and hot, this plant can shock for the temperature and can very unhealthy that will make virus or bacteria can sneak inside the root and make the body infected and it will die.

See the different right? when the plants is having water enough it wll bulky and looks strong becauset as you know that succulent is plants that store water in their body thats why many succulent plant especially cactus will be bulky if healthy. they saved some water inside their body to be used when there is no water in their environment for month or maybe years. In Dorstenia cases this plants seems more loving water than cactus or other succulents and this plants loves sunlight too. from my point of view i can say maybe my other dorstenia get sunburn first then the body cannot store more water and make he need use the water from root. And with this condition i need to place in shading place in order the plant regeneration first. maybe it need 2-3 months for heal the sunburn in their body or something else.

If you wanna see the comparison in the time span of my Dorstenia you can check in this link and see or read when i make the first content in December last year Dorstenia

while i am take a picture about Dorstenia, i take a picture of my cactus at a time
This cactus above is my loving one. which is unfortunate the pattern of the variegata is not full just a half. When the pattern is full this cactus can be a champion in the local contest. But, it is okay i am still loving it and now it has a baby in the varieagated side, need waiting a bit bigger and then i need to take it from the body to make this cactus still growing bigger.

The second that i love is this one, one of the baby that i raise from around 2,5 cm until now it is maybe almost 4 cm wide. the patter of the body from above is symmetrical looks like a star pattern. No wonder they called Starfire Star means the pattern from above and Fire means the colour skin that bright orange and almost red that make look like a fire. And this plant too carrying mini baby in the bottom of the body. And from the colour i can say the baby cannot survive alone, it need to be grafted or need carried by the mother because no green it means the plants does not having chlorophile to cooking for itself.

Unlike this plant i am loving that this plant carrying the baby, i still need to find the good pattern in their breed, Unfortunately this plant did not produce the nice pattern in their childs. i will take it from the mother body if the diameter reach around 2,5 cm first. it will be easier to survive alone in that size.

i will share this plant too. this plant is following me long enough from 2018 until now. it is 5 years with me. the first and the most expensive cactus at that time that i bought because i love it at that time. and i bought it when the diameter still 2 cm. and now maybe is around 9-12 cm wide. Many problems, many disease, many truncated, many recovery, many healthy, and many years with me. From healthy to get sunburned in 2019 when my son born, i dont have time to take care my cactus so this cactus get sunburn almost all the body, but i dont know this cactus is very strong and somehow this cactus survive leaving the green side just a little and that makes the body cripple because of my mistake (but family first right, need to take care my baby first)
And this plant get infected by dangerous bacteria and fungi in 2021 before i move out to new city, Back in 2021 the rain season is very long and make many my cactus and succulents die due the bacteria infection or fungi infection. with almost everyday is rain there no hope to get the sunlight, even many days in the morning there is no sunlight always cloudy and cold. that make this cactus get infected with bacteria and fungi in the same time. That why its body got wound like that. Even the wound has healed but it will imprint in the body forever.
Luckily this cactus seems produce the baby from its body too. Maybe from today i will need to concocting phospate and Kalium in their reguler watering to make my cactus produce flower instead growing baby in their body.

DSC_0019.JPG

the last i want to share is the hybrid from cactus that i share before this one, maybe in 2020 my plant that following me active production flower in that year, and i am cross mate to other gymnocalycium species cactus that make this one, even the colour is just standard and does not having any speciality in this plant body, but what make me still keeping it because the fur in every part of the spine. At first i am tricked by this plant. i think that the fur is form that will produce the flower, but it turns out that the form of this cactus. Pretty right?

And if you want to know how wide and big my Dorstenia leaf you can see this picture

DSC_0023.JPG

See, The size of my Dorstenia leaves is maybe around 20-28 cm wide. That will be a cover like umbrella for the plant around, helping the surrounding not getting sunburned.

Great photos! Amazing red colour too. It's funny, I always thought cactus could survive anything but they don't like to dry out either!

yep they still need water.. but when overwatered they will die too
