Hello, hivers and garden lovers!
We finally got some decent weather again after a week of cold and wet weather that I had no interest in going out into. A couple of days ago, it was cold and windy, but didn't rain, so I finally got up the ambition to go out before it got dark. I decided to go out and fill the 6 garbage cans that I've been using for leaves. The neighbor across the street had a big pile of leaves at the curb, so I loaded my garbage cans and set them next to the chipper/shredder to be ready for the next good day to shred leaves.
You can see that the sun was shining as I was getting ready to fire up the shredder. You can also see the pile of leaves across the street. You might also notice how green my carrots still are. The cold nights don't seem to have affected them yet.
I made an improvement to my temporary fence for keeping the shredded leaves contained as they're getting blown out of the shredder out chute. I added length to the side using an old door that I had in the basement. You can see it on the right side of the picture.
Here's a couple views of the garden after I finished shredding the first 6 garbage cans full of leaves. It's hard to see how thick the pile of shredded leaves is in these pictures.
After I took those pictures, I dragged the garbage cans across the street for 6 more loads of leaves. Once I got all 6 filled and brought back, I ran them through the shredder. By the time I got that done, I was losing daylight so I didn't get any more pictures. After a short break, I went back across the street again and filled the cans again. With the cans full again, I'll be ready to start shredding tomorrow without having to fill the cans first.
A couple more pictures of the garden for you, the first is my remaining tomato plants after the cold nights over the past week. They're done, but the marigolds are still alive.
The marigolds in the raised bed are still doing pretty well for the most part, even with the cold nights.
That's all I have for this post, I hope you found it interesting!
