Hello, hivers!
It's interesting the difference a few days can make in the spring. A week ago, there was still snow on the garden. Now all that's left of the snow is a melting snow bank along the edge of the garden. The dirt has thawed out on top except for where it's covered with snow. I was able to get a bit of work done in the garden to start getting ready for the up-coming planting season. The dirt is still wet, but not too muddy right now.
I wanted to do some basic cleanup in the garden by removing the bean trellis that I left up last fall, and by moving the compost pile to a new location in the garden. I remembered to take a picture of the mess before I started working on the cleanup. I took this picture from the end of the garden by the alley, this is the west end. All those boards that you see on the garden are my garden walking boards that I had piled up on the end of the garden for the winter.
I took this picture after I had picked up some of the mess and taken down all of the bean trellis except for the 3 posts.
This is after pulling the trellis posts out of the garden.
After I got that done, I moved the boards at the end of the garden to make room for the compost pile. I think this end of the garden is a better place for the compost pile because the railroad track curve limits the usefulness of this end of the garden. The compost pile fits nicely here.
I moved some of the pile of leaves that I shredded last fall over to the compost pile, as well as moving the kitchen scraps pile.
I plan on moving more of the big pile of shredded leaves to the new compost area, as well as hauling some of it up to my community garden plots. I still need more up there to finish mulching those plots. I still have a fairly large pile to move.
We have a few more nice days coming up this coming week, according to the weather forecast, so I should be able to get more work done before the weather gets crappy again. At least it's spring and the weather will improve in the next month.
That's all I have for this post, thanks for checking it out!
