I' ve had a rough week both at Hive and at work, but I always find some peace removing screws and trying to diagnose and fix this kind of consoles, my old Xbox 360 had been sitting for a while now gathering dust since it gave a video card error so I've been these last months trying to give it some maintenance first before doing something drastic to fix it, today I was finally able to buy some of the screwdrivers I was missing to finish disassembling the motherboard and clean it thoroughly, I already did a post cleaning a little bit the Xbox case and investigating a little bit the error that had to be fixed, in this post we go a little more in depth removing the fan as well as cleaning the main processor.

First thing I did was definitely remove the flex from the front of the console which is a bit annoying while I'm removing screws, I turned the console over and removed the remaining screws of the fan and the piece that held it, after that it is already a question of technique to remove from the base the motherboard and start now if the complete cleaning of the console, connect it first to see if it still gave the error of being overheated or that the fan did not work and once seen the error I started to remove the dust from the deepest, you will not believe the amount of dust that had the fan and the processor, it seemed as if it had been stored for decades when it was only a couple of months damaged in a drawer before taking it out to repair. To completely unscrew the fan you had to flip the console and release a piece of metal that ends to seal the fan and put it in place, it was no big deal and was enough to pry it with a screwdriver.

For this task I used a little help and my partner gave me one of his old makeup brushes with which I could remove the dust perfectly without damaging any of the circuits of the motherboard, unplug the fan for a while while I passed the brush through the board and I noticed that the Xbox processor had a lot of dry thermal paste, as if someone had already removed the console or tried to repair it, besides that it was poorly applied the truth is that there was very little that had been applied so I thought that most likely the processor has gone into overheating so many times that it was no longer repairable, even so this exercise is quite funny so I kept dusting the console, I removed the remaining thermal paste and reconnect the fan to see now how it worked, the thing is that when I turned on the console the fan started to blow very quickly, I do not know if it was because the console was heating up quickly without the thermal paste on the processor or if the cleaning had taken effect, but it's good to know that something had changed.

The connectors were also a problem to be solved because not having them in constant maintenance have been covered with dust for a long time and can lead to not work properly ports such as HDMI or more importantly the hard disk or USB, so I applied the same technique of passing the brush very carefully not to touch the circuits until I saw something clean inside, my excitement was such that I decided to try it and clean the processor by connecting the console, I turned it on and it seemed that everything was fine until I connected the HDMI. . it did not want to grab video and even my TV did not recognize the device, something was wrong so I had to go back to the table and find out what I had done wrong, I'm not an expert or anything so I already saw this kind of problems coming, although I'm a stubborn guy so this is just a small stumble on the road.

The good news is that the console no longer throws any red light! although most likely I think it is because it does not grab video > therefore can not direct some message as red lights, I had already seen this kind of behavior in some consoles but certainly caught me by surprise this time, more problems! in short if I managed to thoroughly clean the console, its fan and processor but when it comes to assemble the console although it works but does not want to grab the HDMI cable connection, tomorrow I will try it with one of those old VGA cables to see if it is an external problem of the equipment but most likely this project will last longer than expected!

Good job! I wish I had your skill!
