Les cuento que próximamente será el cumpleaños de una de las primas de lucifer. Va a cumplir 4 años y es normal que los niños en esa edad muestren admiración por algún personaje de series o películas y por ende los padres solemos utilizar esos gustos en intereses para adornar y animar sus fiestas infantiles. En el caso de Antonella últimamente ha estado presentando gran afición por la película animada de la sirenita y próximo al su cumple años sus padres y familiares están organizando todo lo referente a la fiesta con esa temática.

She is going to be 4 years old and it is normal that children at that age show admiration for some character of series or movies and therefore parents tend to use those tastes in interests to decorate and animate their children's parties. In the case of Antonella, lately she has been showing great love for the animated movie “The Little Mermaid” and her parents and family are organizing everything related to the party with that theme.
For my part, I wanted to collaborate a little and either by the fact that I am unemployed; or by the fact that I am the uncle artist defender of the punk philosophy “do it yourself” I decided to make him a gift made by myself, an ornament that he can use in his party but then he can also place in his room as decoration, so I will try in this post to explain how was the process.
Por mi parte, he querido colaborar un poco y bien sea por el hecho de que ando si empleo; o bien sea por el hecho de que soy el tío artista defensor de la filosofía punk “do it yourself” he decidido realizarle un regalo hecho por mí mismo un adorno que pueda usar en su fiesta pero que también luego pueda colocar en su habitación como decoración, así pues procurare en este post explicarles como fue el proceso.
First I tried to get an iconic reference image of the mermaid Ariel, to be honest I have not seen the movie so I asked my wife to choose an image that she considered appropriate and when I saw the result she showed me I was surprised how far apart were the references I had chosen, since the only thing that had coincided was that they had red hair. At the end of the day I agreed with her to work on the following image.
Primero intente conseguir una imagen referencial icónica de la sirena Ariel, siendo sincero no he visto la película así que le pedí a mi esposa que eligiera una imagen que ella considere apropiada y al ver el resultado que me mostro me sorprendió lo lejos que estaban las referencias que había elegido, puesto que en lo único que había coincidido es que tenían el cabello rojo. A fin de cuentas acorde con ella trabajar en la siguiente imagen.

After having defined the image I proceeded to use the GridArt application to convert the image into a grid. To do it first I saw the size of the material that in this case was cardboard 1 in kilo these sheets usually come in the dimensions 100cm x 80cm I decided to use a sheet for the mermaid and another for the oyster where she is sitting, this would also give a plus of depth to the final result.
Luego de tener definida la imagen procedí a utilizar la aplicación GridArt para convertir la imagen en una cuadricula. Para realizarlo primero vi tamaño del material que en este caso fue cartón 1 en kilo estas laminas suelen venir en las dimensiones 100cm x 80cm decidí para que la imagen salga más grande usar una lámina para la sirena y otro para la ostra donde se encuentra sentada, esto también daría un plus de profundidad al resultado final.
Luego de tener definido las proporciones de las cuadriculas de referencia empecé con el bocetado de la sirena, cabe resaltar que tanto la cuadricula como el boceto lo realice utilizando un lápiz de color azul claro debido a que este color se integra o disimula mejor al momento de pintar sobre el, puesto que si utilizamos. Por ejemplo, lápiz de grafito corremos el riesgo de que pueda notarse al secar la pintura o incluso al momento de pintar nos puede manchar la pintura y hacernos pasar un mal rato.

También en el momento del bocetado aproveche de definir un detalle que considero es fundamental y es la fijación de la mirada para ello pedí nuevamente ayuda a Maria y Luci quienes me sostuvieron la lámina mientras analizaba desde la distancia la mejor posición para las pupilas, desde mi punto de vista considero que es de suma importancia para El resultado final sin embargo a pesar del tiempo aun le sigue pareciendo divertido a Maria verme caminar de un lado al otro de mis trabajos.
Also at the moment of the sketch I took advantage of defining a detail that I consider fundamental and it is the fixation of the look for it I asked again for help to Maria and Luci who held the sheet while I analyzed from the distance the best position for the pupils, from my point of view I consider that it is of extreme importance for the final result however in spite of the time it still seems funny to Maria to see me walking from one side to the other of my works.
Listo el boceto paso directamente a la parte divertida que es la pintura empecé por la cola siguiendo el siguiente itinerario aplico un color base posteriormente trato de definir el tono más oscuro y el más claro y a partir de allí empiezo a degradar primero con pincel húmedo para mezclar los colores y luego pincel seco para emparejar. Particularmente este personaje presenta unas especies de nervaduras las cuales las realice con un rotulador blanco.
Once the sketch is ready I go directly to the fun part which is the painting, I start with the tail following the following itinerary I apply a base color, then I try to define the darkest and the lightest tone and from there I start to degrade first with a wet brush to mix the colors and then a dry brush to even them out. Particularly this character has some kind of veins which I made with a white marker.
En este punto lucifer también quiso ponerse manos a la obra así que preparo su porción de pintura mientras yo empezaba a trabajar el cabello acá les menciono un dato que considero importante. Resulta que el cabello es rojo y para poder degradar y sacar las luces utilizo amarillo puesto que el color blanco volvería rosado el color y para oscurecer utilizo el azul oscuro.
At this point lucifer also wanted to get down to work so he prepared his portion of paint while I started working on the hair here I mention a fact that I consider important. It turns out that the hair is red and to be able to degrade and bring out the highlights I use yellow since the white color would turn the color pink and to darken I use dark blue.
Estando listo el cabello me preparo a trabajar con el cuerpo utilizando mezclas en distintas proporciones de blanco, ocre, fucsia, amarillo y avellana. Por último trabajo el rostro esto motivado a que ya para este punto me he familiarizado con la tonalidad piel que requiere el persona y de esta forma el rostro queda más limpio y delicado.
Once the hair is ready I prepare to work with the body using mixtures in different proportions of white, ochre, fuchsia, yellow and hazelnut. Lastly, I work on the face because at this point I have become familiar with the skin tone required by the person and in this way the face is cleaner and more delicate.
Lista la sirena me dispuse trabajar la ostra ajuste la cuadricula hice el boceto y pase rápidamente a la pintura utilice como base el azul cielo oscurecí con azul rey y blanco para aclarar sin embargo luego creí pertinente aplicar un verde turquesa para lograr sobras iluminadas un poco más dinámicas. Trabaje la zona interna de la concha marina y por último la almohada donde reposaría la sirena. En este punto Luci ya había terminado y decidió leer un poco sobre animales prehistóricos, uno de sus libros favoritos, mientras secaba la pintura de su trabajo. Y mientras, yo daba los últimos retoques y cortaba las piezas para unirlas.
Once the mermaid was ready I started to work on the oyster, I adjusted the grid, made the sketch and quickly moved on to the painting, I used sky blue as a base, darkened it with king blue and white to lighten it, but then I thought it was appropriate to apply a turquoise green to achieve more dynamic illuminated areas. I worked the inner area of the seashell and finally the pillow where the mermaid would rest. At this point Luci had already finished and decided to read a little about prehistoric animals, one of her favorite books, while drying the paint of her work. In the meantime, I was putting the finishing touches and cutting the pieces to join them together.
Ese fue el resultado final, sin embargo puesto a que todavía queda algo de tiempo, algunos trozo de las láminas que sería una lástima desperdiciar, no descarto las posibilidades de hacer otros personajes de la película para complementar. Por otra parte para los que se están preguntando este fue el resultado de Luci.
That was the final result, however since there is still some time left, some pieces of the sheets that would be a shame to waste, I don't rule out the possibilities of making other characters from the movie to complement. On the other hand for those who are wondering this was the result of Luci.
