First steps in Candle Making π―
Let's see where it shall lead me... And also my first post in #HiveDiY
Today I made my first steps into Candle Making ... "Artisan Cirier" as we say in french.
It may seem easy, and yes, it is, but it was a very first experience to see if I wanted to go further.
My goal, in long term, is being able to craft high quality candles with natural bio wax, natural colours, and natural bio essential oils.
If I succeed the whole process, I might even go one step further and learn to craft the essential oils myself too.
For the final goal : π― Selling my own brand. π―
I decided to make this post to remember the moment π
Preparation
Bringing all materials and ingredients to the working place. The melting pot, the wax, the 2 recipients, 2 wicks, the wicks clips.
Remind the usage of the absorbent paper to avoid wax stains.
Heating and Wicks positioning
I poured some wax into both the recipients to gather enough of it, then I poured it in the meltingpot.
I used the electric hob of the kitchen to heat it, I had absolute no idea how long it would take.
When it started to melt down, I dipped the base of the wicks in the wax, to "glue" them in the center of the recipients.
Hint: This avoids the usage of those ulgy wicks stickers.
Those twe pieces of wood allow the wicks to remain straight when the wax will be poured in the recipients.
The making of the candles
Nice, I finished the preparation of the wicks right on time, in only a few minutes the wax was completely melted, we shall now pour the liquid wax to it's final destination.
I was a tiny bit brutal, so I needed to recenter the wood sticks to be sure the wicks remained centered... The absorbent paper did its job, my wife won't be angry at me, lol ...
And now, I just need to be patient until it cools down .
And voilΓ the final result. I can now cap the recipient and store them until I will use them.
Next time
Of course, these two candles are the basics, but it learned me a lot already,
I will soon be able to perfume them with essential oils, and dried flowers or plants.
I will also acquire some moulds to be able to diversify, allowing me to prepare some catalog for candles on demand ...
Absorbent paper trick.
I asked you to remind I was using absorbent paper. It's a "old generation" trick.
When your candles melt on your favorite tablecloth, you can easily clean it by putting a piece of absorbent paper on the stain, and iron it for a few seconds. The wax will melt again and will be captured by the paper, leaving your tablecloth alone ...
I hope this very simple experience pleased you, let me know if you want to see my progress with it...
I will buy loads of soja and bee wax, some molds, and prepare another post as soon as possible, because I enjoyed it.
I am eager to try with the oils too...
Best regards,
