On this occasion, I want to show you a carved wood sculpture that I have made of one of the most famous characters in the anime world, and I think the most adorable, and I am referring to Pikachu, the protagonist along with Ash Ketchup from the Pokemon anime. Pikachu was the first Pokémon that Ash had in his hands when he began his adventures. At first he was very rebellious and refused to participate in battles with other Pokémon, but as he matured he became his best friend. I have made this sculpture with cedar wood and it is the first that I have managed to make of a large size, since before I was only limited to small figures for key chains and earrings, but now I dared to go a little further and see if I was able to make it . Here in my post you can briefly explain step by step how I did it.

En esta oportunidad, quiero mostrarles una escultura tallada en madera que he realizado de uno de los personajes más famosos del mundo el anime, y creo que el más adorable y me refiero a Pikachu, el protagonista junto con Ash Ketchup del anime Pokemon. Pikachu fue el primer Pokemon que tuvo en sus manos Ash cuando inició sus aventuras, al principio era muy rebelde y se negaba a participar en las batallas con otros pokemos, pero a medida que fue madurando se convirtió en su mejor amigo. He realizado esta escultura con madera de cedro y es la primera que logro hacer de gran tamaño, ya que antes solo estaba limitado a pequeñas figuras para llaveros y pendientes, pero ahora me atreví a ir un poco más allá y ver si era capaz de realizarlo. I cut a piece of wood about 10 centimeters high by 6 centimeters wide, on one of its faces I drew the silhouette of Píkachu using a 4B pencil so that the outline of the drawing can be seen well on the wood and is easier to follow. the line. To carve I didn't use a special tool, I just used a stationery cutter.
Corté un trozo de madera d unos 10 centímetros de alto por 6 centímetros de ancho, sobre una de sus caras dibujé la silueta de Píkachu utilizando un lápiz 4B para que así el trazo del dibujo pueda verse bien en la madera y sea mas fácil de seguir la línea. Para tallar no utilicé una herramienta especial, solo usé un cutter de papelería .

I start carving with the cutter on the sides of the drawing, so I would only have the front part left to shape. Here little by little I am removing the wood with the knife very carefully. Although it looks like an easy step, it really lasted a few hours, although the wood was a little soft, the blade of the knife broke twice so I had to replace it with new spare parts. Here you can see how it takes shape, I also did the carving on the feet so that they were ready from the beginning.
Comienzo a tallar con el cutter por los costados del dibujo, así solo me quedaría la parte frontal para dar forma. Aquí poco a poco voy retirando la madera con la navaja con mucho cuidado. Aunque se ve un paso facil realmente duré unas cuantas horas, si bien la madera era un poco suave, la hoja de la navaja se me partió dos veces por lo que tuve que reponerla con repuestos nuevos. Aqui se puede ver como toma forma, también hice el tallado en los pies para que quedaran listos desde el principio.

In the next step I am going to shape his long ears, here I remove all the large piece of wood that is between both ears and I will give a little shape to each. Not without first drawing the silhouette of Píkachu but this time on the sides, so I can gradually draw out the entire figure, but first I give shape to both ears and also a little shape to the head.
En el siguiente paso voy a darle forma a sus largas orejas, aquí remuevo todo el gran trozo de madera que esta entre ambas orejas y le voy dando un poco de forma a cada. No sin antes hacer el dibujo de la silueta de Píkachu pero esta vez en los costados, así podré sacar poco a poco toda la figura, pero antes le doy forma a ambas orejas y también un poco de forma a la cabeza.

Next and little by little I am shaping the back part of the body and also the front, where are its arms which are small and also its legs, you can see how it is taking the shape of this adorable character.
Seguidamente y poco a poco le voy dando forma a la parte trasera del cuerpo y también la delantera, donde estan sus brazos los cuales son pequeños y tambien sus patitas, pueden ver como va tomando la forma de este adorable personaje.

Then I look for sandpaper to polish and shape it, I sand it quite a bit until the entire surface is clean and smooth, and to finish this process I draw the silhouette of his face again with pencil.
Después busco papel de lija para pulir y darle forma, le paso bastante la lija hasta que toda la superficie quede limpia y suave, y para finalizar con este proceo vuelvo a dibujar la siluesta de su rostro con lápiz.

Since the wood was not very wide, I did not have room to maneuver the carving and remove Pikachu's tail, so I had to use another piece of wood where I made the tail and then I also carved it with the knife and glued it to the rest of the figure. I applied sealing varnish to cure the wood and finally I painted Píkachu's face with acrylic paint, this way it was finished.
Como la madera no era muy ancha, no me quedó espacio para maniobrar el tallado y sacar la cola de Pikachu, así que tuve que utilizar otro trozo de madera donde hice la cola y luego también la tallé con la navaja y se la pegué al resto de la figura. Apliqué barniz sellador para curar la madera y por último pinté con pintura acrílica el rostro de Píkachu, de esta manera quedó finalizado.
What do you think of the result? This is one of those cases where I am surprised by what I have done, it exceeded my own expectations. I did not paint it yellow because I wanted to leave the natural color of the wood, since this would respect the material used and the wood carving technique, so I only put varnish on it. I hope you like it, I already feel like I have unlocked a new challenge so I will continue making more figures and increasing their size, I just hope to find the most suitable wood and better tools. ¿Qué les parece el resultado? Este es uno de esos casos donde quedo sorprendido de lo que he realizado, superé mis propias expectativas. No lo pinté de amarillo porque quise dejar el color natural de la madera, ya que así se respetaría el material utilizado y la ténica del tallado de madera, por lo que solo le puse barníz. Espero que a ustedes les guste, ya siento que desbloqueado un nuevo desafío por lo que continuaré haciendo más figuras y aumentando su tamaño, solo espero encontrar la madera más adecuada y mejores herramientas.
