It is always a good time to learn something new, new skills or knowledge. Sometimes we only do it when we have no other choice, or when some different circumstance arises.
That has really happened to me, I am more of a mind than hands, we would say... and that whole world of DIY, restoration, decoration and repairs was not for me or at least that's what I thought...
Because you never really know. And so it has happened. As I say, I have never had great interest in these small tasks at home, perhaps it has never been necessary or there were other people who did it, but the opportunity has come in my new house. You have to do things and I think that the time has come to learn new things, you should never close yourself off with thoughts “I'm not good”, “I've never done something like that”. Why not give it a try?
I have tried it and suddenly discovered the pleasure of manual work, of giving a second life to some objects and fixing other small ones. There are things that far away from normal abilities, such as the electrical issue and placing the lamps, the cables, I still have to see more in depth but I have helped others with these tasks.
Many different tools and materials... step by step, a lot of learning, our creativity is really boosted. But the challenge is in front of us so let's try!
I have started with other simple activities, small repairs and putting a screw here or there. I have also assembled some furniture, screwdriver in hand and following the instructions I have achieved it, it may be very easy for some but for those who had not done it before it is a challenge and after achieving it satisfaction comes, "I have done this by myself". I must say that I forgot to take more photos of these moments, but I was concentrating on what I was doing and some things I missed...
Perhaps of all the small DIYs that I have made, the most pleasant are the color ones. Painting may be the most basic but it is fun and entertaining. Many new ideas are coming, our creativity is now exploding!
Also, as I said before, we can give a second life to those old objects that are almost about to be thrown away. That's what I wanted to avoid... with a very beat-up chair that I found on the floor when I entered. Abandoned, already dirty wood color and some damaged parts. But I don't know why the first few days I grew fond of supporting the boxes and decided to give it a new face.
A new life in pink, yes, I like the color pink so it was my opportunity, with a piece of cardboard on the floor and a small brush (after having cleaned and sanded it with a soft sandpaper, as they say on the television programs of DIY, and having put some plugs on the legs so they don't scratch the floor, yes using a hammer), now it seems different.
I am missing some small details, maybe another layer, but now while it gets dried well I look at it, a new pink chair.
With the same color I changed a cork frame where I have postcards of my travels, I wanted it to be different, the old color no longer had anything in relation to everything new. Some painted postcard, because I didn't remove everything to do it, it was improvised, an impetus. But with the perspective it will look good on a new wall.
Finally, already in full ecstasy of color, I bought spray cans of chalk paint, for those old wicker baskets already somewhat deteriorated, whose threads were turning dark. I sprayed one of them a very soft mint green color, so soft that in the photos it almost looks white, although in reality it is subtle green, and compared to something white despite the lights in the photos you can see it slightly.
I have done some more, and others that still remain and I have planned. Every time I finish something I look around and I think of something new to do, there is still something left. Making things more beautiful takes time and with enthusiasm and motivation you learn a lot right away, all that staff makes you want to do more. We feel useful and proud of our little works, every time we pass by and look at them. What will we do now?
