Pandan leaves to us are like fragrant vanilla plants and add a delicious fragrance to desserts and savory dishes to side dishes. In addition to adding aroma, green pandan leaves are also always used as a natural colorant for cakes.
Although not wider than banana leaves, pandan leaves can also be used to wrap or carry certain foods. But the most popular is making small molds using pandan leaves.
Pandan Leaves Mold
Cakes that use pandan leaves molds are the types of traditional cakes that must be formed. The texture of cakes that use these pandan leaves molds is usually a bit moist.
So, the use of 'pandan leaves molds' can help make it easier to carry the cake in hand when you want to enjoy it. It will at least reduce the dirty mess at hand.
After we eat the cakes that use ‘pandan leaves molds’, throw the molds into the organic waste category because they are made from plants.
HOW TO MAKE PANDAN LEAVE MOLDS
Well, the news that's a bit unpleasant for busy people is that making 'pandan leaves molds' takes a lot of time and energy. But we can work around this by inviting other family members to make 'pandan leaves molds'.
Prepare pandan leaves that are dark green and hard textured. Avoid young pandan leaves that are soft in texture because they will not be able to be used to hold ingredients. I got these pandan leaves from my family garden.
Well, here in the city where I live, we must have pandan plants because we often make food with pandan leaves ingredients.
Don't forget to prepare a stapler to tighten the sides of the pandan leaves that have been shaped into molds.
Then, start to cut the part of the pandan leaves that look lighter in color. Remove the lighter-colored part.
Take a ruler to mark the length of the pandan leaves. But I only use my thumb. Make sure they are the same length.
Mark about 4 cm, then fold the pandan leaves into 4 parts. Cut the rest of the pandan leaves that are not used, (maybe can be used again if the rest of the pandan leaves are still long enough).
After getting 4 folds of pandan leaves, then cut the right side of the top left of the pandan leaves at an angle to take the middle side of the leaf.
Unfold the pandan leaves after cutting both sides. From these folds formed into triangular molds. Simply fold all the parts to form a triangle.
Then stapler the left and right sides of the molds. Be careful at this stage because the pandan leaves break easily.
‘Pandan leaves molds’ are ready to be used as cake molds. Next, I will invite you to make traditional cakes using 'pandan leaves molds'.
TAKO PANDAN CAKES
We named these cakes as tako pandan. Maybe you guys have another name for these cakes. The more popular ones usually use square ‘pandan leaves molds’. But square-shaped molds require a more complicated method than triangular ones.
If it is without a leaf mold, it can also be made using a pudding mold.
The main ingredient of Tako Pandan Cakes is Hunkwe flour. Hunkwe flour is just bean flour. So I hope you don't get confused listening to this name.
In my area, hunkwe flour uses tube-like packaging that uses paper material to wrap it. Usually, in one package it weighs 50-60 grams of hunkwe/mung bean flours.
Another popular thing is usually to add corn as a filling for cakes. But this time I didn't use corn because I ran out of corn stock at home. You can add fresh corn filling as a filling when cooking this cake dough.
Tako Pandan Cakes Ingredients
- 100 grams of hunkwe flour or mungbean flour
- 150 grams of sugar
- 1/2 of tablespoon salt
- 1000 ml/1 liter of coconut milk
- 2 pandan leaves
- Pandan leaves molds
How To Make Tako Pandan Cakes
Tako Pandan Cakes have a soft texture with a cooling sensation after being stored in the refrigerator. It tastes like pudding.
They will taste even more delicious if you add corn or even pieces of jackfruit that are fragrant and sweet.
So, are you guys going to give this recipe a try, with or without the pandan leaves molds? You can try to be creative with other plants that are usually used to wrap food.
