As everyone knows, nature is breathtakingly gorgeous; it is made up of various tree species, plants, mountains, flowers, and landscapes.
How about we talk about flowers? Flowers can be made from different kinds of things that we can use.
Have you heard about the possibility of making perfume out of kalachuchi flowers?
Now I’m going to share with you my experience in perfumery. Let’s turn the kalachuchi flower into a scent that will soon tell a story. I will also include the steps involved in making this perfume.
We are required to make perfume from various flower varieties for our General Chemistry 1 project. I have chosen the kalachuchi flower because it is not that hard to find.
Kalachuchi Flower
In the Philippines, kalachuchi flowers are primarily planted as ornamental plants for their beautiful blossoms. The lovely petals of the blooms give off a sweet scent that can typically cover an entire room or garden, and they are said to be the source of the perfume known as "Frangipani."
Let’s start with picking some kalachuchi flowers. I already made sure that before I picked the kalachuchi flowers, I had already asked permission from the owner. If you already have a kalachuchi plant at home, that is even better.
I've already gathered enough kalachuchi flowers to create the appropriate quantity of perfume. To ensure that our container is clean and thoroughly disinfected, I began the process by immersing it in hot, boiling water. Allow it to dry after soaking. Make sure the container you're using is sturdy enough to prevent breaking easily.
While I am waiting for my container to dry, I will proceed to the next step, which is picking off the petals of the kalachuchi flowers. Be careful when picking off the petals of the kalachuchi flower.
After picking off the petals of the kalachuchi flower, I will put it inside a plastic bag for the next step. Let’s smash the petals using any kind of solid material. I used the ketchup bottle to smash it.
The following step requires an essential oil; any type of essential oil will do. Since there isn't any other essential oil available, I use essential virgin coconut oil. I estimated how much essential oil I would need based on how many petals I had in a different container. I separated the essential virgin coconut oil and added the petals of the kalachuchi flower to it. Allow the floral combination to ferment for three days.
I used a strainer to remove the petals from the kalachuchi flower after it had fermented for three days. I drain the liquid combination and then pour it into the container I soaked in the boiling hot water; the container is now completely dry.
This is the logo that I made.
I edited a logo for my packaging and printed it on sticker paper to easily put it in the packaging box.
When I am done printing it out, I assemble the packaging that I will be using. I have no idea where to buy a perfume box or packaging, so I decided to use the cupcake box or packaging instead. I put some shredded paper inside the box to make it look more fancy or aesthetic. I attached the logo that I made, which consists of the name of my perfume and my name as well, to the perfume container and to the packaging box.
Here it is.
This is the final result of my perfume-making using the kalachuchi flower.
Together with my friends and classmates, we decided to pass the perfume that we made together to the LRC, where our teacher of general chemistry is staying.
This is us when we successfully made our own perfumes.😊
I successfully made my first ever perfume; it’s not that perfect, but at least I tried my very best to produce a nice outcome. I am very happy because, after all the challenges that I have encountered in making a perfume, I can say that it’s a success. I made it wholeheartedly; I put a lot of effort into making it have a beautiful result.
As you can see, nature is very helpful to us and may be transformed into many things we require. Nature provides us with lovely things that we can use for our purposes, which makes life easier for us. Let's put it to good use. What is provided to us should not be misused. The ability of flowers to capture people's attention and who would believe that they can become perfume? Making a perfume was not easy, but I am proud of myself because I did it.
So, as I end the chapter on my first perfume-making adventure, I carry with me not only the sweet scent of success but also a newfound confidence in my ability to embrace challenges and transform them into something truly remarkable. And as I looked ahead, I knew that this was only the beginning of a fragrant and fulfilling journey filled with endless possibilities.
As I draw to a close, let us never forget that supporting one another is what will always make us stronger.
Let’s wrap this up and continue our engaging conversations in my next story.
