I don't use a microwave very often. It's use in my kitchen is more of a glorified butter melter.

But when this 20 year old microwave that was mounted above my stove developed issues with the keypad and became difficult to start my family decided I needed to replace it.

Since it was difficult for me to reach and a bit dangerous for me to remove hot objects from, and nearly impossible for me to clean, it was decided it should be replaced with a countertop microwave. One more step to making my kitchen more accessible for me!

I'm really happy with my new microwave, which I can easily reach while seated on my scooter, but like most all projects this one created more issues. Tearing out the old microwave left unsightly holes in the wall. My son replaced it with a range hood and fan and put up a tile backslash which nicely covers the holes and the area behind the stove will be easy to wipe food and grease splatters from.

In my house, we often use a microwave oven. Previously, we even often cooked food on it and baked pies using it instead of an oven. Now we have a separate oven and use the microwave for heating food.

I use my microwave daily, for one thing or another! That was so sweet of your son to do that work for you! The backsplash and range-hood look so good! He did a great job on it! 😃

The new one works really nicely. It seems faster and heats more evenly than the old one. I'm pretty sure I will be using it more often then before.

I have to say, it's a rather odd place to put a microwave in the first place particular with the heat from the cooking rising up. So glad you got it sorted out, and it looks so nice now.

By the way, I've never seen these type of cookers before, the panel looks a bit like a washing machine at first glance. Just wondering, does switching off cause any issues when you have to reach above the heat?

I think above the range microwaves are very common. This one had a fan and range hood built in under the microwave. It never got hot.

My stove is a gas range. I love cooking on it. The stove top burners are controlled by the knobs on the front of the stove. The control panel that you see on the back is for the oven and broiler.

Hahaha! Mine probably would be used for that purpose too, except I don't like coffee!

That shelf worked out perfectly to display those tea cups and egg cups. It has also kept me from getting obsessed with expanding my collection since no more will fit on the shelves! 😁

Your son did an excellent job with the range hood and backsplash Melinda! It looks great! My microwave is about the same age but has always sat on a small counter. I'm hoping it holds out as long as I do..lol. 😊

Mine still worked, it was simply the buttons that you needed to push to get it started that seem to not be making good contact anymore. Sometimes they worked and sometimes they didn't. I am loving the new one though, it seems to be so much more efficient than the old one, and warms things up in half the time.
