Strawberries are red, juicy, plump, sweet, and tasty fruits loved by many. This summer, my strawberry plant has been giving me an endless supply of delicious fruit, which has inspired me to try something new.
Today, I challenged myself to create a stuffed crochet strawberry, a project I had never tried before.
I used leftover DK red and green yarn and a 3 mm crochet hook
Here's how: 🍓
Strawberry Body:
Magic Ring: Start with a magic ring, chain 1.
Round 1: Crochet 6 sc into the magic ring. (6 stitches)
Round 2: Increase in each stitch around. (12 stitches)
(2 sc in each st)
Round 3: 1 sc, inc - repeat around. (18 stitches)
(1 sc in first st, 2 sc in next st, repeat)
Round 4: 2 sc, inc - repeat around. (24 stitches)
(1 sc in first st, 1 sc in next st, 2 sc in next st, repeat)
Round 5: 3 sc, inc - repeat around. (30 stitches)
(1 sc in first st, 1 sc in next st, 1 sc in next st, 2 sc in next st, repeat)
Rounds 6-9: Sc in each stitch around. (30 stitches each round)
Round 10: 3 sc, dec - repeat around. (24 stitches)
(1 sc in first st, 1 sc in next st, 1 sc in next st, decrease next 2 sts, repeat)
Round 11: 2 sc, dec - repeat around. (18 stitches)
(1 sc in first st, 1 sc in next st, decrease next 2 sts, repeat)
Embroider seeds onto the body of the strawberry with a contrasting yarn color before stuffing it.
Stuff the strawberry; I use extra yarn.
Round 12: 1 sc, dec - repeat around. (12 stitches)
(1 sc in first st, decrease next 2 sts, repeat)
Round 13: Decrease in each stitch around. (6 stitches)
(decrease every 2 sts)
Finish off: Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
Leaves and Stem:
Magic Ring: Start with a magic ring. Chain 1.
Round 1: Crochet 5 sc into the magic ring. (6 stitches)
Round 2: ch 4, sl st in the next st - repeat around. (6 leaves)
Finish off: Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
Using the long tail left on the leaves, attach the leaves to the top of the strawberry. Secure and weave in the ends.
Done!
This strawberry looks a bit Genetically modified! :)
I decided to add a stem. I used wire, wrapped it with yarn, and secured it by threading the wire through and secure to the middle of the leaves.
Happy needleworking Monday, everyone,
