Hi, guys! I’m back again with another small project, this one even smaller😅, but just as handy. I made crochet bookmarks!
The story behind the project is simple. I’ve had my eye on different designs of crochet bookmarks and planned to make a couole of them sometime, but I kept pushing it to some other time till I decided to just go on and do it. What was I waiting for anyway?
A perk of being a crocheter is that you always have lefover yarn available for small projects, so I headed for my stash to get some yarn. I didn’t want them plain — I wanted a mixture of colours, so I combined the yarns below to give me these unusual combinations. I combined light salmon and light pink, then yellow and nude.
I was going to make a flower one and a heart one. The heart and the flower would be at one end, with a long cord that will go inside the book, while for the other end, I wasn’t sure yet what I was going to do to it because I did not want the heart and the flower to be at both ends. I didn’t let that delay me though — I just began, and I began with the flower one.
To make the flower, you make a magic ring, then you chain 1, do a half double crochet, a double crochet, a half double crochet again and finally a slip stitch into the magic ring. You repeat this process 4 times (altogether 5), then close the magic ring and slip stitch to the first petal.
Having crocheted the flower, it was time for the cord. I settled for a regular chain because I didn’t want it bulky. It’s a bookmark after all. You simply crochet a long chain till you’re okay with the length. I made 40 chains. I wanted it to hang down a bit out of the book, but not so low.
At this point, I had to decide what to do to the end. I settled on putting a bead. Luckily, I had a jar of random beads in the house so I searched for a perfect bead. I found this really cute pink one that was a bit big. It was just perfect.
With a needle, I got the bead through the yarn and the cord then tied off the end and burnt it so it won’t come off. Voila!
The second bookmark was the same process, only that I made a heart instead of a flower. The heart was very easy to make. In the magic ring, I chained 3, did 3 treble crochets, 4 double crochets, then chained 2 and did the reverse of what I just did. That is, 4 double crochets, 3 treble crochets, then 3 chains. After this, I closed the magic ring and did a slip stitch in the middle of the heart.
The colour of bead I used is difficult to describe in colour. It just fit the yarn combination so much!
And here they are doing the job they were made for.
Actually, the heart or flower could be down and the bead up — any way you choose. While I tried both and liked them, I still prefer this way with the bead below. What do you think? Let me know in the comment section.
😘Till next time, guys. Ciao!
