Hey dear needle workers hehe! It's a new day and a new beginning.
I'm so excited to share a nice piece with you. The best part of knowing how to make a dress is knowing that you can make your own dresses when occasions come up. Almost all the dresses I have are made by me, if not all hehe.

So today I want to share one that I made recently for myself, below you can see how it looks on me:

I had to buy stuffs needed to make this dress. I used:

  • Isiagu Ankara fabric
  • A black velvet fabric
  • Boning
  • Stone zip for the back
  • Paper stay and airstay for padding
  • Cotton lining

So how did I get inspired to make this dress right? Well there's an event, convention of JWs that I needed to attend so much, it's a 3 days program and I knew I had to look good for the 3 days. So I was able to make dresses for myself, of which this is one of them.

I chose to have a cultural look and that was my motive of choosing the fabric. The red fabric with leopard face printed is a traditional Igbo fabric called the ISIAGU.

Isiagu in English translates to 'Leopard Head's it is a traditional Igbo dress, signifying power, authority, pride, strength and mobility. Wearers of ISIAGU were men of chieftaincy and recognized as noble. Though today people have normalized the wearing of this fabric, making it a regular wear for different styles for both men and women. But it is still depicting culture.

I wanted to have a cultural look, I made the dress of an igbo tribe queen and I also wore coral beads as part of the culture attire.

Making this dress took me about 8 hours, cutting, padding, stitching and then finishing...

I loved making it from start to end, I was happy to get it done and it looked really nice, I also loved the fitting it gave me.
Since I was able to get what I wanted, I wore it so confidently on the day of the event and I was so happy to have made it myself.

Sometimes I wonder what would happen if I didn't know how to make dresses hehe, I know how much a seamstress would charge if they were to take this dress for me, but it only took me about $5 for the fabrics and my skill saved me money.

So yes, I enjoyed the making process of this dress and the fitting it gave me... matching with my hair and the beads... everything was super fun!
