Needle Work Monday - Sewing project with scraps of sheets to get through a day of bad weather. 😃❤️

in #hive-127911last year

Hello everyone, Hive & Needle Work Monday friends. I hope you had a great weekend, wherever you are in the world. Here we are still about to complete two months in the province of San Juan in Argentina: a trip that began with the idea of lasting three weeks but fortunately extended a little longer. The good thing is that in this province we always find something to do and train, even if the plan includes staying at the hostel due to bad weather. Plus, since I have a sewing machine at my disposal, it's even harder for me to get bored and I'm getting a lot of use out of it ❤️.

This weekend my co-workers, guests and I were "imprisoned" in the hostel due to an orange alert about strong winds. This climatic phenomenon is called "zonda wind" and is a large gust of hot and dusty air that originates in the mountains and even reaches the city. It usually lasts two or three days, and when it is forecast, the recommendations are to avoid outdoor activities, close all windows and cover spaces where dust can enter the houses, in addition to staying hydrated due to the high temperatures. The gusts of wind that we felt in the city were quite intense and the temperature reached 40°C, so the situation was probably worse in the mountainous area 😶.

This meant that these days we could not go trekking or hiking, and we only enjoyed our relaxed stay at the hostel. To take advantage of the outdoors a little, my partner and I dedicated ourselves to using the sewing machine to make some minor repairs to our clothes or finish sewing some hems of towels and sheets. That's when it occurred to me that I could also do something with the scraps I had left over from the sheets and pillowcases I was working on a few days ago, and this was nothing less than a little summer top 😃.

I already know the molding to make the cups of a bra by heart, so after just a few minutes I had everything drawn and the fabric cut for the front and straps. Furthermore, among the discarded sheets I had some strips left over that used to be the old hems of the large sheets, so I was able to use them perfectly for the underbust of this top ❤️.

Sewing this little top took me about an hour and there were no complications, since it was sheet fabric and was perfectly sewable and flat. I think it turned out nice, and it will be ideal for the hot days that the San Juan zonda wind brings with it ❤️.

For a fabric not suitable for a project of this style, I think it performed quite well. The fit was adequate and I made it one size larger than what I would use for a bra, since the idea is to wear it alone but without feeling so naked. Now it's funny that this little top and the hotel sheets are the same, but at least these scraps had another use besides cleaning rags 😅.

I had a lot of fun making this top and now my friends want one for themselves, so I guess we would all have the same one. Sewing during this trip was quite a surprise, but I'm glad it happened that way because it's my favorite hobby. I hope that you also liked this project and that you are encouraged to do this type of sewing work because they are great ❤️.

I can't believe that you are about to spend two months in that city, it is truly incredible, the truth is that it doesn't surprise me, the city is really beautiful and has a lot to offer
The days here have also been very unstable, this morning the storm arrived in the city, the strong winds have made a disaster, but luckily now everything is fine, this wind phenomenon is affecting a large part of Argentina.
It's good that you have the cooking machine to make the days more bearable. It's great to see what you have done, you are very creative, congratulations for the knowledge you have
I take this opportunity to wish you a happy and prosperous week, may you continue enjoying everything that this beautiful province has to offer.

Thank you very much Luis :) It is true that time passed very quickly, the stay here was great. And the sewing machine thing was an incredible plus, very entertaining.

I hope the weather has settled down here. I send you my regards ❤️.

Reading this, I know that You are one person who doesn't waste time doing unnecessary things. I love that even in your free time, you were able to be productive. And did I tell you this? The bra is beautiful.

Thank you very much :) It is true that I like to make good use of my free time, I like to be productive ❤️.

I love that you used your indoor time to get busy instead of being bored Your resourcefulness in using fabric scraps of your sheets and pillow case to create this brallete is truly impressive. It's fantastic to see how you turned a situation where outdoor activities were limited into an opportunity for sewing.

The fact that your friends want one for themselves shows just how much they admire your work. Sewing can indeed be a very rewarding and enjoyable hobby, and you've showcased it beautifully.

Thank you Glory :) It was very fun to sew this bralette, my colleagues were amazed by this work. It was a great pastime for everyone, luckily now the wind has calmed down and we can go out for a walk. Thank you very much for stopping by, greetings ❤️.

Wow this is amazing. It is nice to get busy with your time to create this beautiful bra. Because the said time na money, weldone. But your prefer color black really fit you more than this very colour. Weldone my beautiful friend

Thanks Moses :) It's true, I prefer black but this one isn't bad either ❤️.

I love the fact that your bra has the same fabric now, then the sheets of the hostel. Weird, maybe but it also makes it special! And in that way the bra will always remind you of your time there and all the memories😊
...any plans of leaving? Or you going to sew new curtains for the hostel next?🙃
(It's really exciting to see how much fun you are having, and how you are extending your trip further and further!!)
Enjoy your time❤️

That is what I said! Now this bra will remind me of this hostel forever haha.

Regarding the trip, I'm just now arriving at my house in Buenos Aires... these were almost two months that went by very quickly in this province of San Juan. I only come back Home because I have some celebrations that I don't want to miss... But I have already planned almost my entire summer from December to April, also in other hostels in the south of Argentina, exchanging receptionist and cleaning work for accommodation :) and If there is sewing work, it will also be welcome ❤️!

Ooooh 😍 That's really exciting!! Awesome!!

That's just so awesome about exchanging work for accomodation, you can just travel for ages with very little money:) Do you know some of the work/travel websites, like "workaway"? Or are you contacting the hostels just like that?

Looking forward to a busy summer then😊
