Happy Monday to all of you, Hive & Needle Work Monday friends. I hope your weekend has been great and full of good things. Here in Argentina the winter school break has begun, so there are already several plans for nephews to visit with the idea of going to enjoy the outdoors. This may reduce my free time, but I'm still going to organize myself with everything I want to do. One of those things was a gift for my sister, to whom she had promised a bra for daily use a long time ago: luckily she knew how to wait and I finally did it for her 😅.

Acá en Argentina empezó el receso escolar de invierno, por lo que ya hay varios planes de visitas de sobrinos con idea de ir a disfrutar el aire libre. Esto quizás reduzca mi tiempo libre, pero igualmente me voy a organizar con todo lo que quiero hacer. Una de esas cosas era un regalo para mi hermana, a la que hace tiempo le había prometido un corpiño de uso diario: por suerte supo esperar y al fin se lo hice 😅.
I think that in all this time that I learned to sew I tried to give at least one thing to all my loved ones. Perhaps a pillow, a purse or a set of underwear: anything that makes me think of them works as a gift. I had thought of a bra for my sister because I know that underwear is never too much, but every time I have to make lingerie that is not for me, I have a little crisis until I finally finish the garment and the owner can try it on. I don't know how the seamstresses who make more complex clothes to order do: I guess I have to rely more on my own methods 😅.
Creo que en todo este tiempo que aprendí a coser traté de regalarle aunque sea una cosa a hecha por mí a todos mis seres queridos. Quizás algún almohadón, monedero o conjunto de ropa interior: cualquier cosa que me haga pensar en ellos sirve como regalo. Para mi hermana había pensado un corpiño porque sé que la ropa interior nunca está demás, pero cada vez que tengo que hacer lencería que no es para mí me agarra una pequeña crisis hasta que finalmente termino la prenda y el dueño puede probarsela. No sé cómo hacen las costureras que hacen ropa más compleja a pedido: supongo que tengo que confiar más en mis propios métodos 😅.
When it comes to garments, I already have it quite clear because they are patterns that I repeated dozens of times and I know that the fit is perfect. But when it comes to other sizes, I don't feel sure about this: all bodies are different and not in all cases the measurements of the industrial tables fit well, so the doubt remains until I finish the garment. I know that I should relax a bit, but it would bother me to know that I am making a garment that in the end is not going to fit well on its recipient 😶.
Cuando se trata de prendas para mí ya lo tengo bastante claro porque son patrones que repetí decenas de veces y sé que el calce es perfecto. Pero cuando se trata de otros talles no me siento segura de esto: todos los cuerpos son distintos y no en todos los casos las medidas de las tablas industriales sientan bien, así que la duda me queda hasta que finalizo la prenda. Ya sé que debería relajarme un poco, pero me molestaría saber que estoy haciendo una prenda que al final no le va a calzar bien a su destinataria 😶.
Be that as it may, this time I decided to silence the voices of my insecurity and made a bra following the table of measurements that I use for mine. The good thing about this molding is that it can be easily progressed: since I have the molds drawn on a large piece of paper, just by adding a few more centimeters they can be made in any size you want. My sister is two sizes bigger than me, so the measurements weren't that different. Having the patterns almost ready allowed me to get to work quickly 😃.
Sea como sea, esta vez decidí callar las voces de mi inseguridad y confeccioné un corpiño siguiendo la tabla de medidas que uso para el mío. Lo bueno de esta moldería es que se puede progresionar fácilmente: como tengo los moldes dibujados en un papel grande, con solo añadir unos centímetros más se pueden hacer en cualquier tamaño que se desee. Mi hermana tiene dos talles más grandes que el mio, así que las medidas no eran tan diferentes. Tener los moldes casi listos me permitió poner manos a la obra rápidamente 😃.
The process of elasticizing the edges I already mastered it quite well so in just 20 minutes I can sew the elastics of all the contours. For this bodice I had chosen a wide elastic for the lower bust, thinking about a better fit of the garment... but when I finished sewing the hooks something happened. I realized it looked a bit small so I had to go back through my notes...
El proceso de elastizado de los bordes ya lo domino bastante bien así que en solo 20 minutos puedo coser los elásticos de todos los contornos. Para este corpiño había elegido un elástico ancho para el bajo busto, pensando en en mejor ajuste de la prenda... pero cuando terminé de coser los ganchos algo pasó. Me dí cuenta de que se veía algo pequeño así que tuve que volver a revisar mis apuntes...
And that's when I noticed that I had cut the measurement of the wide elastic wrong. According to the table that I was following, I cut about 8 cm from the necessary measurement, which was quite a lot and certainly not concealable. Comparing work that I had done before, the measurement I put on it was quite similar to my bras, so I doubted that this would fit well on a garment two sizes larger than mine. This led me to unstitch everything I had done and worst of all, I no longer had that wide elastic 😕.
Y ahí fue cuando noté que había cortado mal la medida del elástico ancho. Según la tabla que estaba siguiendo recorté como 8 cm de la medida necesaria, lo cual era bastante y seguramente nada disimulable. Comparando trabajos que había hecho antes, las medida que le puse era bastante similar a la de mis corpiños, así que dudaba que esto fuera a quedar bien en una prenda dos talles más grande que las mías. Esto me llevó a descoser todo lo que había hecho y lo peor de todo es que ya no tenía más de ese elástico ancho 😕.
I had to replace the thick elastic with one that was a bit thinner but would still work. It wasn't my initial idea of what this garment would look like, but luckily I had enough inputs to fix the mistake. And... the thick elastic that I unstitched will be left to make a bra for me, as if I didn't have a few at this point in the game 😅.
Tuve que reemplazar el elástico grueso por uno un poco más fino pero que igual funcionaría. No era mi idea inicial de cómo se vería esta prenda, pero por suerte tenía insumos suficientes para solucionar el error. Y... el elástico grueso que descosí quedará para hacer algún corpiño para mí, como si a esta altura del juego no tuviera unos cuantos 😅.
Parallel to this project I was working on another to give to another person and I used up all my black elastic straps, so for this garment I had to use the red ones. Black and red is a good combination, but I still made the straps with detachable hooks in case my sister wanted to put some black straps on it. It's been a long time since I've made a large purchase of supplies and I'm going to have to buy more soon 😀.
Paralelamente a este proyecto estuve trabajando en otro para obsequiar a otra persona y gasté todos mis elásticos de bretel negros, así que para esta prenda tuve que usar los rojos. Negro y rojo es una buena combinación, pero igualmente armé los breteles con ganchos desmontables por si mi hermana quisiera ponerle unas tiras negras. Ha pasado bastante tiempo desde que hice una compra grande de insumos y pronto voy a tener que comprar más 😃.
I had also thought about sewing a red bow, but in the end I decided on a black bow, again thinking about the possibility of changing the straps and making the garment all black. My sister and I really like this color so I'm sure at some point she's going to want to make it a monochrome piece. I also think that since it is a gift it is good that it is a basic item of clothing ❤️.
También había pensado en coserle un moño rojo, pero al final me decidí por moño negro, otra vez pensando en la posibilidad de cambiar los breteles y que la prenda sea toda negra. A mi hermana y a mí nos gusta bastante este color, así que estoy segura de que en algún momento va a querer que sea una prenda monocromática. También pienso en que al ser un regalo está bueno que sea una prenda básica ❤️.
Finally, this is what the final garment looks like. This bra is quite comfortable for regular wear, and the good thing is that, like most of the clothes I make, it was made from scraps. In the end, I was right to keep all those discards for a long time: one day I would do something with them 😅.
Finalmente, así es como se ve la prenda final. Este corpiño es bastante cómodo para su uso regular, y lo bueno es que, como la mayoría de las prendas que hago, fue originada a partir de unos retazos. Al final, yo tenía razón en seguir conservando todos esos descartes por largo tiempo: algún día haría algo con ellos 😅.
In addition to everything I have to do, these days I have to visit my sister to bring her gift and I also have to get to work on my other ongoing project. I am very excited to finish it and give it as a gift, although I also have doubts about the size. I believe that everything will be a matter of unifying criteria, choosing a single size chart to base myself on the measurements to use, and also trusting in my own work. If it can work for me, I can work for someone else too ❣️.
Además de todo lo que tengo que hacer, en estos días me toca visitar a mi hermana para llevarle su regalo y también tengo que poner manos a la obra en mi otro proyecto en marcha. Estoy muy entusiasmada por terminarlo y regalarlo, aunque también tengo dudas sobre el talle. Yo creo que todo será una cuestión de unificar criterios, elegir una sola tabla de talles para basarme en las medidas a usar y también confiar en mi propio trabajo. Si puede salirme bien para mí, también lo puedo hacer para alguien más ❣️.
