Do you refer to your clothes as your second skin?
Your chosen layer of fur or feathers? Changing your skin, leaving the old one behind you, someone might find it laying there on the ground. Putting down the winter layers when spring comes around the corner. Impressing other ones with your colourful feathers or camouflaging in your surroundings. Hiding behind layers protecting you from the outside.
But unlike most other animals you could choose to change your skin whenever you want. You wouldn’t have to wait for the right season or reason.
Recently I this Leggings two piece. It was a very spontaneous and rather quick project.
Am I saying quick? That doesn’t mean I didn’t have to unpick…
I found this fabric, for free, a left-over of someone else. And happens to be there was enough material to cut out the shape of my legs twice.
So Leggings it would be.
Meanwhile, I am still into my self-experiment of not wearing black. Which is going rather great and is implying very simple rules.
I don’t wear black and in return I forgive myself the craziest and most unfitting colour combinations.
It turns out to be a very freeing experiment. Since I got used to not giving a shit. I am almost as easily dressing as if I would go for my all in black outfits.
Within this experiment I could use an extra legging with colours.
...unpicking, I warned you.
Coincidence is funny sometimes. I had a conversation about clothes being our second skin around this time.
In that matter, Leggings is becoming an obvious one. They are literally a second skin you pull over your legs.
To be honest I haven’t thought of that much before.
Even though Leggings have become a very essential part in my wardrobe.
But in a way I find it pretty cool, that I am able to choose the colour and patterns of my skin in that way.
One day I am a leopard next day a mermaid or just a walking art piece.
I could even stretch it further with a one-piece covering from ankles to wrist. Doesn’t mean you aren’t allowed to wear anything on top. Since not everyone might be comfortable to expose every shape of their body like that all the time. And let’s say the one piece is made from something really comfortable as cashmere or silk?
In this case I didn't have enough fabric for a whole one piece. Nevertheless I managed to add a top with the last scraps of fabric.
You could choose to be a “Cashmere” one day or a “Cotton” depending on which skin you choose for that day. Meanwhile the disturbing thought about this one is, that Cashmere is already a goat. You are a human. So which one is supposed to be your fur?
In other ways seeing clothes as your second skin brings up a more questioning mindset I find. What would you want to be? What would you want this skin to be, not just another garment, but the cloth touching your skin through the whole day and night?
What fabric what colours are your showing yourself in and what does that say about your intentions and your persona?
Thank you all to stop by once again, see you around soon and have a lovely week!
PS: Feel free to answer any of the thousand questions I am asking in this post:) Would be very interested to hear what you'll have to say about it!
