Your second skin? or shells in blue making a two-piece

in #hive-1279112 years ago

Do you refer to your clothes as your second skin?

Your chosen layer of fur or feathers? Changing your skin, leaving the old one behind you, someone might find it laying there on the ground. Putting down the winter layers when spring comes around the corner. Impressing other ones with your colourful feathers or camouflaging in your surroundings. Hiding behind layers protecting you from the outside.

But unlike most other animals you could choose to change your skin whenever you want. You wouldn’t have to wait for the right season or reason.

Recently I this Leggings two piece. It was a very spontaneous and rather quick project.

Am I saying quick? That doesn’t mean I didn’t have to unpick…

I found this fabric, for free, a left-over of someone else. And happens to be there was enough material to cut out the shape of my legs twice.

So Leggings it would be.

Meanwhile, I am still into my self-experiment of not wearing black. Which is going rather great and is implying very simple rules.

I don’t wear black and in return I forgive myself the craziest and most unfitting colour combinations.

It turns out to be a very freeing experiment. Since I got used to not giving a shit. I am almost as easily dressing as if I would go for my all in black outfits.

Within this experiment I could use an extra legging with colours.

...unpicking, I warned you.

Coincidence is funny sometimes. I had a conversation about clothes being our second skin around this time.

In that matter, Leggings is becoming an obvious one. They are literally a second skin you pull over your legs.

To be honest I haven’t thought of that much before.

Even though Leggings have become a very essential part in my wardrobe.

But in a way I find it pretty cool, that I am able to choose the colour and patterns of my skin in that way.

One day I am a leopard next day a mermaid or just a walking art piece.

I could even stretch it further with a one-piece covering from ankles to wrist. Doesn’t mean you aren’t allowed to wear anything on top. Since not everyone might be comfortable to expose every shape of their body like that all the time. And let’s say the one piece is made from something really comfortable as cashmere or silk?

In this case I didn't have enough fabric for a whole one piece. Nevertheless I managed to add a top with the last scraps of fabric.

You could choose to be a “Cashmere” one day or a “Cotton” depending on which skin you choose for that day. Meanwhile the disturbing thought about this one is, that Cashmere is already a goat. You are a human. So which one is supposed to be your fur?

In other ways seeing clothes as your second skin brings up a more questioning mindset I find. What would you want to be? What would you want this skin to be, not just another garment, but the cloth touching your skin through the whole day and night?
What fabric what colours are your showing yourself in and what does that say about your intentions and your persona?

Thank you all to stop by once again, see you around soon and have a lovely week!

PS: Feel free to answer any of the thousand questions I am asking in this post:) Would be very interested to hear what you'll have to say about it!

Sort:

I'm finding that my second skin can't be too heavy. I need to be able to move. Goat or Sheep or Rabbit or Silkworm? As long as they are light and trap layers of air, I am happy to wear them all.

I love the red boots, look so nice with the shells 😍.

Oops, I forgot alpacas 😁

Thank you!!:)
I do come across "heavy" clothes sometimes that I like, but any time I try wearing them I feel really uncomfortable... so yess I definitely agree on this one!

I like the idea of thinking of your wardrobe as sdcond skins once you slip them on!

Also beautiful patterns you've got going there.

Hey thank you!! thats nice to hear!

...makes it sound a bit more exciting, then just "dressing up":)

Love the creativity and the idea that clothes is our second skin. But our second skin should be something light to aids free locomotion.
Love the leggings, it really looks good on you.

Thank you!!:)
yess indeed I agree, it should make you feel light and free to move!

You're welcome

Leggings would definitely be my second skin, I don't like thick stiff materials other than wool.

What are we wearing tomorrow?
Is it being sewn yet?:D

hmmm for tomorrow we have some freshly sewn gold/brown leggings, still warm:))

...and maybe after tomorrow I get my head into bralettes😏

This is was a really fun bread for me, indeed our clothes is our second skin in a way and that is why attaching so much importance to it is something that we should consider if we are not doing it before.

Leggings are nice, they have so many advantages to one's body and it good to see that you avoid wearing black as much as you can and that is nice but I don't think I got the reason why you don't like black.

What do I want to be In the kind of second skin I choose? Well I just want to be simple and presentable at all time.

I'd love my second skin to be a gown, they are my best because I feel so so comfortable in them and it boosts my confidence when I'm around people.

And I do love the color blue, with a touch of black on it, it makes me feel calm and humble in appearance, hehe.

These images are all creative and I love your leggings and the red boot, it looks really nice from what I saw 😍👍.

It is not that I dont like black. But I find myself wearing only black some times out of comfort so I dont put any effort in variations anymore... (and I feel like wearing too much black kind of reflects on my thoughts in becoming monotonous)

And yes its awesome I find how much a different piece would change how you feel! I would love to wear more dresses but right now it is winter here so that is a bit difficult if I dont want to freeze (too many layers)...

And thanks for sharing your thoughts:) was nice to have you come by!

Okay now I know better. Well that's a good one, I think it was necessary for change.

Yes, for those places where there are snow, this time wearing gowns is not a good idea at all, lolz.

You're welcome, I'm more happier I stopped by, it's my pleasure. Have a fabulous day moving forward ❤️

of course! ...I did:)

Thank you for your support @kesityu.fashion, much appreciated!

I really enjoy your writing, very stream of conscious. I'm going to attempt to limit my comment words so it's not so much, but many thoughts came as a result of reading what you wrote. Things for me to consider for a bit.

Love the way you use found fabric and it's wonderful to find just enough to make something.

The only time a piece of clothing and also footwear feels like a skin to me, is when I've worn them so much they have almost become a part of me. As they fall apart, I can't bear to throw them away until I have to because they feel like a part of me. Also, I love things in a state of decay, the character and the story they tell.

What fabric what colours are your showing yourself in and what does that say about your intentions and your persona?

Black, gray, a kind of khaki that is a bit gray, and dark blue are my standard go to colours. They mix and match easily and afford me the ability to blend in. Fabrics I prefer are primarily natural ones. In direct opposition to that, are the weird, wild things I do to clothing that make me stand out like a sore thumb. Lots of colours, any fabric, any texture. So I'm a walking contradiction. 😂

Uuuuh yess, I like those contradictions!!
Just today I was thinking I should set up kind of a colour theme for my wardrobe (the one that I am sort of continuously making) I bet it makes life easier if everything kind of fits.
But on the other side I also loove the random mixing (walking around like circus or a kid)😅

And true, the favourite pieces are indeed feeling the most as another skin... also that you will put the effort in them to repair them again and again until it is just impossible anymore, fits. The same you would do with your actual skin...

Thank you!! Love to hear that you enjoy my writing, I still feel a bit shy from time to time thinking that people can actually read what I write, but also really enjoy myself doing it again:)

It does make it easier in terms of jobs I've had, which is why I have two different wardrobes. The conservative stuff is for work, like a uniform that isn't one. The other wardrobe is the fun one, with all the wild stuff that would never be acceptable at work.

That's beautiful and yes, hahaha, I do repair again and again until it's impossible.

I know that feeling. It gets easier. You've got your own way of being that stands out in a lovely way.

Nothing more to add. Yes!
and thank you:) it gets easier indeed (I think I procrastinated my first post for a month or even two, mainly because of the writing..haha)

LOL! I did similar at the beginning because of being scared of writing. 😂
