Hello friends and fellow artisans. Happy and blessed Tuesday to all. I hope you are well, enjoying a new and creative week. Today I am very happy to share with you the beginning of a new project that I am very excited about.
It is a crocheted Nativity Scene, in this publication I share with you how I made the base of the body of one of the main characters of the most beautiful scene of all; the birth of our Savior. Join me and I'll tell you the details.
Christmas is on its way, many people really enjoy decorating at that time of the year, I must confess that I am not one of them. I am one of the Grinch in the family, I don't like Christmas decorations; they are beautiful, it's true, but I don't like them.
However, I am fascinated by nativity scenes, I have some miniature ones that I have been buying and I place them in my creative space during the Christmas holidays. This year I was motivated to weave my own “nativity” as we call it in my country. This project excites and scares me, since it would be the first time I do something like this and I want it to be beautiful.
For this project I am going to work with 1mm Colombian crochet thread, since I have not been able to find the 2mm thread. Before starting with my knitting I decided to make a test with the material to verify the size of each my character, so I knitted 2 bases one of them with double strand and #4 needle, the other base with single strand and #2 needle. In the end I liked the result much better with the double strand, because it is much bigger and I don't enjoy knitting with such thin yarns.
To ensure the success of this macro project, I decided to follow a video tutorial I found on You Tube. After watching several videos I decided to go with the Gretawings channel. I really liked his way of explaining, it is quite simple to understand. With this tutorial I was able to learn some things I didn't know, since amigurumis are not my most explored area in the crochet world. I learned how to apply hot silicone to the base of the body so that it will stand on its own. I also learned how to attach the wire frame to the arms and head and how to knit the purl stitch. It is amazing how much you can continue to learn and improve in this art.
This is the base of the body used for the 5 main characters of this nativity scene. They are then personalized by adding hair, clothing and other details. I am already anxious to see everything together finished, however, I will be knitting in my spare time and will continue to share with you the progress and results. Thanks for reading greetings and blessings.
