Hello everybody,
At last, the day have come I finished crocheting the 15 Christmas Balls and submitted the other day for the Project Christmas Tree (with Ball ornaments). Here they are:
Last year, our local crochet group called Cebu Crochet group was supported by Oakridge Business Center and Visayas Art Fair, created the Visayas' first outdoor crocheted Christmas Tree. "This vibrant display, unveiled at the tree lighting ceremony, became a symbol of tradition and creativity, garnering widespread praise and heartfelt social media buzz." -Admin Sarah A. Palmares.
Grateful much, I was included as one of the maker of that Granny Square Christmas Tree, I have already blogged about it.
Then, this year, with continued support the group is again embarking on a new project: An outdoor Christmas Tree entirely covered in crocheted balls. Here are the project details:
What: Crochet ball ornaments for a 23 footer Christmas Tree at Oakridge Mandaue
When: Ongoing - 31 October
2024
Materials: 8" diameter (25" circumference) styrofoam balls.
4ply acrylic yarn (weather-resistant) Or mixed with milk cotton in Christmas color Theme. But, I used 5 ply because for me it is more sturdy.
Patterns are up to us the makers, use our imagination as long as it is Christmas theme.
I was assigned 15 balls to make.
After I purchased the materials, my hands were busy. First, I made the Twirly design just like the Beanies I always made. But, I only made one because it requires a lot of yarn to make one ball, the budget for 1 Christmas Ball must be only 2 balls of yarn use.
Last September 26, these were the balls I made. Then, to make it easier I divided by 5 the Christmas balls, 5 for Christmas colors which are white, red and green and 5 plain colors I can applique designs then 5 different stitches. Most of the members used double crochet to form their balls but I suggested to use longer stitch like extended double crochet to come up with less rounds resulting less cost of yarns. They asked me how I made it. Here's the pattern:
Round(Rnd) 1: In a magic ring Chain(Ch) 3 considered as 1 Extended Double Crochet(Edc), 13 Edc, pull the center of the ring to close, join with slip stitch into the 3rd chain of 1st ch 3.(14Edc)
Rnd 2: increase, 2 EDC in every stitch.(28 Edc)
Rnd 3: 1Edc, 2Edc all around. (21 Edc)
Rnd 4: 1Edc, 1Edc, 2Edc all around. (28 Edc)
Rnd 5: 1Edc, 1Edc, 1Edc, 2Edc, all around. (35Edc)
Rnd 6: 1Edc, 1Edc, 1Edc, 1Edc, 2Edc all around. (42 Edc)
Rnd 7,8,9,10: 1Edc in each stitch. (42 Edc)
Make 2 pcs using yarn needle, sew together joining using hemming stitch.
The last day of submission is Oct 31 at least I submitted mine, early. The Admin will soon inform me when will be the viewing. If only we lived near I can assist in forming the Christmas Tree balls but we lived far so the Admin understand my situation. I will just wait for the viewing.
Just until here, guys.
Thank you for dropping by...
