Before I submit my entry for Needleworkmonday Community's contest: Needlework Your Barbie Contest, I would like to present this summer outfit I made for Dahlia.
I named her Dahlia after the name of my mom Dalia (adding with letter H), simply because I like her name. Dahlia is also a beautiful flower with lots of petals and differs in colors.
I bought two dolls in Shopee last year (December), one for me and the other one for @romeskie's daughter Aya that I had given. I specifically choose this kind of doll because it looked beautiful, the hair is nice and long, the eyes are pretty big and all the necessary parts of her body have joints that can bend whatever post or movement you like. The dolls came with no clothes or shoes but that's not a problem for me as I can make her a new outfit that I'll be sharing with you now.
As I was making Dahlia's summer outfit, I was thinking of what profession should I choose for my Barbie to portray as my entry for the contest. At first, I was thinking of a fashion designer that designs outfit and sew them in reality. Like my mother, she sews dresses for her customers, only she's not a fashion designer. That was also one of my dream but definitely not sewing fabrics but using those colorful yarns by crocheting.
Anyway, here are the materials that I used in making Dahlia's outfit.
Materials
- 3ply mercerized variegated cotton yarn
- 2mm crochet hook
- pearls/beads (I forgot what size it is but the smaller one.)
- scissor/trimmer (I forgot to include this one in the picture. 😅✌️)
I hadn't used any tape measures as I have my model beside me so anytime I could test the size of chains or length of the costume on her body directly.
By the way, my inspiration for making Dahlia's outfit can be seen here. I was amazed and dazzled by the creator's masterpiece and loved to try it in minis.
Procedure
SKIRT
First I made the skirt. I made some basic stitches here that compost only chains and double crochet. As you can see, it was just a plain skirt but because of its color, the effect was pretty awesome.
I also put some pearls on the upper slit area and it looked stunning.
Next, was her top. I find it hard to crochet the replica top of Kaekae's creation in the smaller size, so what I did was to make 2 caps, joined them, put some pearls underneath the caps, and make the straps and ties on the back.
Lastly, the bandana. It wasn't included in the inspiration that I was following but I just like the idea of putting something on her long hair. Same with the skirt, the pattern was just simple and easy that everyone I think could follow.
Pictorial
As much as I enjoy the process of making her the outfit, I also have fun taking her pictures.
Beautiful, isn't she?
