The most beautiful thing about my motherhood and my life as an artisan has been being able to teach my son to crochet, not as an imposition but as a natural process of interest on his part when he watches me work and in addition to my full support to teach him when he asked me to , since I became a mother I went back to needles and threads, I rediscovered my passion, which at first was a way of earning an income to support my son, was connected with a fiber that I attribute to an ancestral heritage I don't know in which part of history women began to work with needles to make things for their children and for their children, but something in me blossomed to a level that I couldn't explain, because I don't believe in God, yet the same Science tells us that knowledge transmissions are carried somewhere in our people, as well as our instinct. This week my son Rafael returned to the needles again, to make a turtle that he had seen on social networks, I am only his guide, I tell him what steps to follow but he is the complete maker of his work.
He started three days ago, Rafael used acrylic yarn and 3.5mm crochet hook, he started with the shell of the turtle that is like the center of the sunflower, he started with 8 single crochets in a ring, he made 8 increases for 4 rows, 3 rows no increases and then made 4 rows of 8 decreases, filled in before casting off. That same day he started to make the petals but he felt tired so he left the job for the next day. That day I had to hold back my tears, because I myself am doing a project that I hope to finish in a few days, so we were both sitting close to each other, working with crochet, my son interrupted the silence to tell me "Mommy, do you know that I really like knitting" 🥹 my heart seemed to stop, I think they were the most beautiful words I've ever heard in my life.
My son is very restless but he manages to concentrate, he doesn't stop working on crochet but he changes places every moment, at one moment he is in the chair and then he is on the floor or he goes to the room to work on the bed, this week he surprised me because he started working sitting on his old skateboard, while he knitted he slid back and forth on the skateboard 🤣. The second day he finished the petals, each petal is a single crochet, 9 chains and a slip stitch where the first single crochet was made, I told him to do it that way because he still doesn't know how to do double crochet.
Today being the third day of work Rafael finished the turtle, making the head and legs, I was in charge of sewing the parts and embroidering the eyes, he is a very enthusiastic boy, he told me that if he found a client he would sell him the turtle but that if not he would stay with her because he likes her a lot. I did the respective photo session of the final result and took advantage of taking some photos of Rafael with the turtle. Today I feel very happy to share this experience of my son with you and he is also very happy to do it, if he continues to do so many beautiful works I think that one day he will have his own blog, what do you think? HUG 🤗
