Greetings dear community, just like last week I was in a recycling stage, trying to take advantage of the materials I have that anyone could consider useless, as I showed you last Monday, I took some old shirts out of my closet that were no longer useful and I made a carpet, but I still had to recycle a gray t-shirt, so with this t-shirt and some of the material that was left over from the black t-shirts I have made a Kitten that I named Barquilla (ice cream cone)
Before I begin to tell you about the production process, I want to say that I always keep in mind the title of an album by the Dutch band Asrai, this is “Pearls in the dirt”, whenever I find something valuable within what others consider garbage. I say that there are pearls in the garbage, that's why I think that this Kitten, before being what he is, lived without form in a garbage dump but only with love did he see life through my hands, it is these metaphors and thoughts that give me motivation to continue recycling whenever I can even though my mom keeps scolding me for saying that I accumulate things.
Materiales/ Materials
- Ganchillo # 5
- Tijera
- Aguja de ojal grande
- 1 old t-shirt and only a piece of another old t-shirt or similar fabric
- Waste of fibers and threads obtained when carrying out other projects (the small pieces that are discarded or are in poor condition for weaving)
- 2 plastic pearls for the eyes, it is optional to make them with the same fabric.
- 1 piece of ribbon and a charm from an old necklace.
- Crochet #5
- scissors
- Large eyelet needle
Proceso/ Process
The shirt must be cut to form strips at least 1.5 cm wide, this must be done continuously following a spiral path to make the most of the fabric, then these strips are made into a ball and they are ready to be used to work.
Cabeza / Head
With the gray fabric make 4 base chains.1 Round: 1 increase, 2 single crochet 1 increase and repeat. IMPORTANT: Make half the stitches in black and from this measurement, decrease the number of stitches in black in the following rounds to form a triangle.Round 2: 2 increases, 2 single crochet 2 increases and repeat.Round 3: 1 single crochet, 1 increase, 1 single crochet, 1 increase, 2 single crochet, 1 increase, 1 single crochet, 1 increase, 1 point low and repeat.Round 4-6: 30 single crochetRound 7: 1 single crochet, 1 decrease, 1 single crochet, 1 decrease, 2 single crochet, 1 decrease, 1 single crochet, 1 decrease, 1 point low and repeat.Round 8: 2 decreases, 2 single crochet 2 decreases and repeat.Round 9: 12 single crochet.
Cuerpo / Body
Make 3 increases for 6 rounds inserting the black color in the stitches of the cat's back.
With only gray color make 6 decreases in the next round. Then taking only the back side make 12 decreases. As I said, this cat is made with only recycled materials, so here I show the jar where I put the "garbage" when I'm knitting other things, this is the ideal time to use this recycled filling. Stuff the body and close with 6 decreases.
Orejas / Ears
Taking the 3rd round from the sides as the distance, lift 1 stitch, in the next one make together 1 half double crochet, 1 double crochet, 2 chains, 1 double crochet, 1 half double crochet. Then in the next one make 1 slip stitch and hide the yarn inside.
Patas y cola / Legs and tail
For the legs you should make 6 single crochet in a ring and in the next round make 1 single crochet three times followed by an increase to obtain 8 stitches. Close with 1 slip stitch and sew the leg (make two). For the tail, make 6 single crochet in a ring, work 6 rounds without increases, varying the color. It closes with a slip stitch and is sewn to the body.
Detalles / Details
Sew the plastic pearls for the eyes take the same black fabric and embroider the nose and mouth, place the ribbon around the neck with the earring and make a bow, the earring is in the shape of a waffle cone or ice cream cone, that's why I put that name to the cat.
Resultado / Result
This Kitten called Barquilla, being woven with fabric, is heavy, that is, do not think that it has the softness of a stuffed animal, however, this makes it even cuter because it looks like an ideal figure to be on a desk or on a small table. in the living room, its weight prevents it from falling over and it is very resistant. I see the result and I just can't believe that it's made with “stuff” that anyone would throw away.
