Desde que diseñé el muñeco de Guaman Poma, quise volverlo patrón y ese fue mi reto hasta ahora. Para lograr este diseño, me ayudaron Rusbel Mollo (por los colores de referencia), Guaman Poma (por mostrarnos el dibujo de sí mismo en sus escritos) y @tahiaarq (por el testeo del patrón).
Varias veces les mencioné a este personaje, esta vez solo diré que es ideal como material didáctico para docentes y estudiantes de Historia del Perú. Sería chévre ver en los Colegios (Centro de estudios) a Guaman Poma...no se, sería como si los Quipu hablaran (mensajes codificados), creo.
From the moment I designed the Guaman Poma doll, I wanted to turn it into a pattern and that was my challenge until now. To create this design, I was supported by Rusbel Mollo (for the reference colors), Guaman Poma (for drawing himself in his writings) and @tahiaarq (for the testing of the pattern).
I have mentioned this character many times, this time I will only say that he is ideal as didactic material for teachers and students of Peruvian History. It would be nice to see Guaman Poma in the schools (study centres)...I don't know, it would be as if the Quipu could speak (coded messages), I think.

Mismos materiales, ligeras variaciones en el patrón, distintos tamaños (desde 17 a 20 cm de altura) y distintas tenciones de tejido. Con Guaman Poma aprehendí a elegir las características de un crochet, así que ya iré preparada cuando decida comprar uno.
Un dato importante aquí es el tamaño de los ojos (en sí es el mismo), la cercanía y lejanía le dan un aspecto distinto a cada rostro. Por eso recomiendo ponerle tú estilo al rostro, ya que los patrones son solo como guía.
Same crochet and yarn, small variations in the pattern, different sizes (from 17 to 20 cm high) and different crocheting tensions. With Guaman Poma I learned to choose the characteristics of a crochet, so I'll be ready when I decide to buy.
An important tip here is the size of the eyes (in itself is the same), the closeness and remoteness give a different look to each face. That's why I recommend styling the face yourself, as the patterns are only a guide.
Espero recuerdes a este muchachillo, jaja. Cuyo adorno de la chompa era bordado, por lo que a mi parecer se me complicaba explicar el bordado para volverlo patrón. Ya en su otra versión (creo que no lo enseñé por aquí, no recuerdo), quise que el muñeco se asemeje mucho más a la imagen de referencia.
I hope you remember this little guy, jaja. His jumper ornament was embroidered, so I thought it was difficult to explain the embroidery to make it into a pattern. In the other version (I don't think I showed it here, I don't remember), I wanted the doll to be much more similar to the reference image.
Con este diseño apreveché a convertir los dibujitos amarillos de la chompa de bordado a un tipo de punto (algo así). La idea fue que iban apareciendo las figuras a medida vaz tejiendo la chompa (cuerpo del muñeco) y eso fue un enorme logro. Si bien, terminé de hacer al muñeco, extrañaba al original (versión 1)...En ese entonces, faltaba muy pocos días para que Guaman Poma tomara un largo viaje.
With this design I took the opportunity to convert the little yellow drawings of the embroidery jumper to a type of stitch (something like that). The idea was that the figures would appear as I crocheted the jumper (body of the doll) and that was a huge result. Although I finished making the doll, I missed the original (version 1)... At that time, it was only a few days before Guaman Poma was going on a long travel.
Hay momentos cuando abrazo a todo el mundo (eso me pasa muy seguido) y este fue uno de esos. Volví a replicar la versión 1 (original) del muñeco, aplicando los conocimientos de la versión modificada puntada de la chompa. Esta vez sí logré plasmar el mismo rostro. Y Guaman Poma viajó a encontrarse con su dueño.
There are moments when I hug everyone (that happens to me quite often) and this was one of those. I replicated again version 1 (original) of the doll, applying the modified version stitch of the jumper. This time I managed to capture the same face. And Guaman Poma travelled to meet his owner.
Las versiones anteriores me sirvieron de modelos para sacar el patrón escrito. En estos momentos estaba practicando mi tensión con el crochet, entre los rangos de 1.5 mm, 1.75 mm y 2 mm. Nótese la variación de la distancia de los ojos debido a las distintas tenciones de las puntadas.
The previous versions served as models for the written pattern. I was currently practising my crochet tension, between the 1.5 mm, 1.75 mm and 2 mm ranges. Note the variation in eye distance due to different stitch tensions.
Este muchacho es quien sale en la mayoría de las fotos del patrón. Con él ya dominaba la nueva puntada de la chompa, la cual llame "Punto Guaman Poma". Aunque, hubo un detalle que resonaba en mi cabeza. Y aproveché ese momento para hacerle un último cambio.
This boy is in most of the pictures of the pattern. With him I had already dominated the new jumper stitch, which I called the ‘Guaman Poma stitch’. However, there was one detail that kept resonating in my head. And I took advantage of that moment to make one last change.
Con este último cambio ya todo estaba listo. Por eso, fue momento de conocer a Amigo, su mascota. La sesión de fotos fue muy divertida. Me encanta ponerle el fondo de piedras en la oscuridad, para darle ese aspecto a realidad.
With this last change everything was ready. So it was time to meet Amigo, their puppy. The photo session was a lot of fun. I love to put the background of stones in the dark, to give it that real look.
No se ustedes, pero editando esta foto me dí cuenta que a Guaman Poma (del centro) le faltaba algo... el borde dorado de su chompa. Esas son situaciones que pasan, jaja. ¡A solucionarlo!.
I don't know about you, but while editing this photo I realised that Guaman Poma (in the centre) was missing something... the golden border of his jumper. These are situations that happen, jaja, let's solve it!
Y esto fue parte de lo que hay detrás un diseño de patrón. Uno de mis objetivos de diseñar patrones es dar a conocer mensajes por medio de los personajes y traerlos a este tiempo presente. Me encanta investigar y creo que los muñecos tejidos es mi forma de comunicar y difundir temas muy útiles para la humanidad.
And this was part of what is behind a pattern design. One of my objectives of designing patterns is to communicate messages through the characters and bring them into the present time. I love research and I believe that crocheted dolls are my way of communicating and diffusing very useful topics for humanity.
