I’ve been a good girl this year so I got a ball winder as a Christmas gift. Not like I can’t do it by hand but this just makes it much easier, faster and neater.
I did ask for a ball winder but to my surprise the man also got me a swift to go with it so he doesn’t have to stand holding the yarn when I wind it.
The swift is from KnitPro and winder is made by Scheepjes. I did not specify what brand I wanted, just that it wasn’t one of those plastic eye sores. The man has a good eye and understands handcrafts so he picked well.
I’ve been wanting a ball winder for ages and I’ve avoided buying yarns that are in hanks because they are so annoying to wind into balls by hand. There are a lot of smaller yarn dying companies these days that sell their gorgeous yarns in hanks, and some have a possibility to buy the yarn wound into cakes for an extra charge.
I only resently started buying some hanks of yarn because I was pretty sure Santa would bring me the ball winder. I’ve just spend the evening winding the yarns into neat pretty little cakes that are easy to use. The ball winder and swift work really smoothly and once packed in, don’t even take that much space.
10/10 do recommend if you like to buy yarns that are in hanks.
