Ball Winder

I’ve been a good girl this year so I got a ball winder as a Christmas gift. Not like I can’t do it by hand but this just makes it much easier, faster and neater.

I did ask for a ball winder but to my surprise the man also got me a swift to go with it so he doesn’t have to stand holding the yarn when I wind it.

The swift is from KnitPro and winder is made by Scheepjes. I did not specify what brand I wanted, just that it wasn’t one of those plastic eye sores. The man has a good eye and understands handcrafts so he picked well.

I’ve been wanting a ball winder for ages and I’ve avoided buying yarns that are in hanks because they are so annoying to wind into balls by hand. There are a lot of smaller yarn dying companies these days that sell their gorgeous yarns in hanks, and some have a possibility to buy the yarn wound into cakes for an extra charge.

I only resently started buying some hanks of yarn because I was pretty sure Santa would bring me the ball winder. I’ve just spend the evening winding the yarns into neat pretty little cakes that are easy to use. The ball winder and swift work really smoothly and once packed in, don’t even take that much space.

10/10 do recommend if you like to buy yarns that are in hanks.

Ball winder sounds like a potential top selling item at Kaalimato for next Christmas.

I’m sure that is someones kink.

It's a wide world.

Beautiful winder and swift! Your man does have a good eye for quality and beauty. Myself....well, I have one of the ugly plastic eyesores lol. It does get the job done, but not with the panache of the wooden swift.

Haha yes I know it works the same but unless it’s a Tupperware, I don’t want that plastic in my house 😝 Luckily it’s not something you need every day so it can hide in a box somewhere.

Christmas and new year celebration tense to bring hive users with great ideas sharing

Every day is a new start. Be blessed, serve Me.

Greetings @eveuncovered, congratulations on your giveaway, it's a great tool to keep threads organized and save time.

Happy new year 2023!

Happy new year @belkyscabrera

Ah, wonderful, you got one!
It opens a whole new world of possibilities!

looks like a really satisfying occupation for long winter nights :)

All I need is more yarn! 😂😂

I just want to cry right now. I wish this post would have came before I ruined one of the most beautiful yarns I ever laid my eyes on. When I purchased my first hank I didn’t realize I could have asked someone at the store to wind it in a ball for me. I also didn’t think to look up a tool such as this. I tried doing it by hand and got it so tangled I had to throw it out. I even did a post about it back then…

I’m glad you were able to get one. I too would prefer wood over plastic. Thanks for sharing this with us. I will definitely invest in one ~ 😊

Nooooooo! That sounds terrible! Did you really toss it? I would have slowly but surely got the yarn untangled, it’s annoying but worth it. When you do it by hand you have to put the yarn around table legs or something like that so it doesn’t get messy.

Depends on the store obviously but if they have a ball winder then it’s a possibility to have them wind it for you.

100% tencel yarn, that sounds interesting, I want some too. What were you going to make from it?

It was so terrible. Yes I did. I tossed the majority of it but kept a small ball that I detangled. I haven’t looked at it in years because I feel it’s been too stretched (this was when I didn’t know better not to make a tight ball).

I wish I would have known to put it around a table.

Yes, it’s a beautiful yarn. I actually purchased it to be my first knitting project. I wanted to make a lace scarf for the Spring time when it got cooler at night. I do plan on getting more eventually. 😊
