Hello my fellow needleworkers, today’s project is more like a custom of a design I made some time ago and I will be dropping a written tutorial kind of incase anyone wants to remake it.

This particular hat has an original design. I named it LAYLA.

A client reached out to me, she said she wanted a granny square ruffle hat (Layla specifically). She didn’t want the squares as big as the one on Layla so tinier squares is what makes this different from Layla.

We went into the pricing and color picking (she wanted the exact same color) which was actually fun for me in a way.

I stepped out to go get supplies because I ran out of that particular color and going to the market for me is a drag honestly, the noise, seeing many people , the vehicles.

I always go home with a bad headache so I was already dreading the whole experience before it even started.

When I got home I took some time to rest my head because (pheeew) that was a huge struggle.

I got to making the hat and first was orange squares ( 16 for the body ) ( one for the base ). The one for the base was different since it was going to be bigger than the rest of the squares that will be made for the hat.

After that one row of yellow granny square stitches were made for the body while the base maintained the two rows of orange granny square stitches.

Next row one row of orange granny square stitches for the body(last row for the body) then one row of yellow granny square stitches for the base.

Next two rows for the base only will be orange (note that the pattern for the base is not the same as the one for the body.

Last row for the base is one row of yellow granny square stitches. The 16 squares that were made for the body I connected them in pairs of two as seen in the images, I did that till I connected all of them using a single crochet stitch.

Next up are the ruffles. Wasn’t not so thick or let’s do it just wasn’t scanty. I started by putting four stitches in every chain 2 space ,chain 1 space, and double crochet stitch till I got to the end of the row.

Second row of ruffles was just one stitch in every space and the same for the third row of ruffles.

Nest th info is hiding the yarn stitching out and cutting off the remaining. I had so much fun making this and I hope you do too.

*measurement tape.

  • 4.0 mm hook for the body
  • 5.0 mm hook for the ruffles.
  • stitch markers.
  • Darning needles.
  • 4 balls of 40g acrylic yarn
  • scissors
  • measurement tape
