Whoo Hoo!! It’s a Happy Monday for sure!
I finished our little monster friends over the weekend. I took the photoshoot and handed them over to my son to start their adventures!
It’s so motivating reading your comments and feedback. I think I told several of you that I would be showing you the results today. That made me work even harder to get the job done (that and my son keeping an eye on me and my crochet hook to see how far along I was lol) so thanks a bunch for that.
Before I get to the photoshoot I want to share a few things I did to make the monsters a bit more movable.
After crocheting the arms and legs I added a pipe cleaner to each of them.
For this second monster I decided to give him two extra arms. As stated in a previous post my son loves a monster with multiple arms.
My first idea was to just crochet around the pipe cleaners but since I didn’t have similar colors that matched the yarn I decided to make the arms. I made them skinny enough to be smaller than his first set.
Here’s a pic of me testing out the bending effect as I crochet…
I love how the thin wire allows for just enough movement of the limbs. I wanted him to be able to sit the monsters down if he wanted.
Sewing on the wig was fairly easy. I used my darning needle and whip stitched it on to the top of the monster.
I had to keep pushing down the stuffing because I kept picking it up as I went in and out of the stitches. It was getting everywhere. 😄
The yarn hair was also getting everywhere as I would accidentally weave it in with the needle occasionally. 🤭
I wanted to trim it so bad but my son requested that it stayed long and wild. He said
A monster’s hair looks crazy anyway. 😁
This second monster also got two teeth instead of one. His teeth aren’t as sharp as the first one’s tooth but I think they serve their purpose.
This monster ended up being everyone’s favorite. Not only because of the extras I added but the color is brighter and you can better see the details.
Here’s a shot of the back so you can see where I added the second set of arms…
Overall I’m glad he loves both his monsters. He told me they were brothers; the yellow is the oldest since he’s bigger. He also told me that the older brother may be stronger but his younger brother is faster than he is.
You know what else he said to me? He wants
to learn how to crochet so he can make a green monster. 🥹🫢🥰
I know right?! Just melted my heart when he said that.
He didn’t want to ask me to make another one because he saw how much time and work I put into these. I told him I made them because I wanted to and I don’t mind making things for my kiddos at all. He’s my sensitive sweet one and always expresses how he doesn’t like when he sees me overworked. ☺️
Anyway, I told him if he wants to learn I will gladly teach him. His siblings has their request lists lined up for me so he knows I wouldn’t be making him another anytime soon.
Check this list out of what my kids want crocheted:
My middle son - 3 headed dragon 😧
My youngest son - an entire family of people - he wants me to crochet up some humans 😅
My youngest daughter - unicorns, unicorns and some more unicorns - she picked like 5 of them for me to do 🫤😫
My eldest daughter - some type of figurine - she has yet to explain this to me more
I have my work cut out for me. That three headed dragon won’t be happening hahaha. He’s in the process of looking for another dragon that I would realistically make.
For now I’m going to let my hands rest a bit before I start on another one.
Here are some photos of the brothers hanging around catching some of this nice weather.
They just painted this fire hydrant. I thought the bright red would make for a cool photo…I think they did too. 😊
It was a perfect time for them to test out their strength and see how well those arms work. They both climbed the tree so fast. As you can see yellow monster is using all of his limbs to stay upright. Blue monster plays it real cool and only needs one arm to stay gripped. 😎
Thanks for following this monster journey with me. I truly am grateful for the time you spend reading and commenting on my posts. I hope you enjoyed ~ 😘
