Yep, when you’re this cuddly you can sleep on the clouds!
Here’s my finished project for the baby gift. If you’re just joining me I shared a hint of what I was making last week for my neighbor’s baby girl whom will soon be arriving.
@Lauramica guessed I was making a little sheep but I didn’t tell her last week that she was correct lol. Way to go Laura! 😄
I left off with finishing the head. Over the weekend I managed to continue on to the next steps one by one while working around my busy schedule.
The nose and eyes were added next. I really enjoyed seeing these little parts work up to make her face come alive…
For more info on the eyes and what I used please read my embroidery tip.
I do regret not stuffing the face more. As you work the darning needle in and out of the head and face to sew these parts in it really deforms the entire shape. I had to keep reshaping as I worked and the whole time I was wishing I had stuffed it way more. I will definitely do that for the next one I make.
Sewing on the ears wasn’t too bad. I just had to line them up as evenly as I could. One of the ears is a little longer than the other but I sewed it deeper into the head to make them even. You can make the ears stick straight out or bend them a little like I did.
I’ve always loved making bows so I got really excited when it was time to make one. I like lining my bows to make them look neater all the way around with single crochet stitches. I debated whether to make the bow a little smaller since the head was smaller but I like the look of this size…
I hesitated sewing on the head because I wasn’t sure of the right spot to do so. The pattern doesn’t tell you exactly where to place it so it was a guessing game. I did glance at a few videos on placement and decided it was best to sew it right in the middle.
I made sure to knot it several times since velvet yarn is so smooth and slippery. You definitely want to be sure the yarn doesn’t slip out of it’s place. It was pretty simple weaving the yarn in and out at the bottom of the head to attach it to the blanket.
I do want to mention that the velvety yarn does shred quite easily. It was still workable but I had to be very careful and gentle with every stitch (especially when weaving in ends) to make sure the yarn didn’t shred too much. My tension was very loose. You don’t want to crochet this type of yarn too tight anyway which would cause it to loose it’s soft and fluffy look.
I’ll leave you with a few more photos from her photoshoot. It was fun posing her and positioning her hands and feet to make her look like a cuddling baby…
She got a little shy towards the end ☺️…
My daughter decided she didn’t want the lamb after all. She looked at it, hugged it and then said
Mama I don’t want her. She is too sleepy.
🤣🤣🤣
I think the sleepy lamb reminds her too much of nap time which she doesn’t like to take. 😅
The second one I make will be for another neighbor who is expecting a boy. I’ll make the nose a tan color and leave out the bow and there ya have it, a lamb for a baby boy. 😁
I hope you enjoyed the final finish! I had lots of fun with this one.
