I saw a tablerunner / placemat when I was at IKEA last week and I loved the pattern and colors. I bought one and already knew what I wanted it to be. I also knew how I wanted to make it and it’s the easiest DIY with a bit of sewing. Both with the machine and by hand.
It took 30 minutes total.
For the blog I dressed it like it is supposed to be used, on the table!
The colors blocks make it a great pattern for an en envelope bag, a flat square and can be held in your hand , under your armpit or be with a strap.
I was giving when I decided to sew this evening. I will need it tomorrow to go with a dress I have.
Than the sewing begins….
Is ethe edges and sew the two part together just besides the sides. Do that on both sides and flip teh bag inside out. Sewing sides are now in the bag.
Fold it and make the flap. The flap will overlay the front just a bit and the closing will be possible with the ring.
I sewed on number 5 where my sewing needle is to the left. That way it sewing beside the existing stitch and it’s blind when I reverse the fabric.
You see the name MITTFIT it’s the name IKEA gave this product and I will leave it in teh bag for fun. And proof that I was diy’ing and hacking IKEA on the diy front.
You fold it horizontally and save a bit at the top, that will be the flip side.
Because it’s an existing piece from a store the sides are ready to be handled. Less sewing for me.
The steps are hopefully clear so you understand what to do.
On to the closure. I choose a clip ring that was in my sewing box for a garment, but I will use this here now and buy a new one for the garment.
The end result :
And the proof that the table runner or placemat is really sold at IKEA. The name is in the bag now.
Like I said a simpel and easy diy sewing blog for an special colored bag. And for a phone a lipstick and a car key big enough.
I will wear it tomorrow and because it took only 30 minutes I know for sure I will make another one when I see a gorgeous pattern.
The cost at IKEA were 1,99 and the time sewing is free it’s ME TIME.
Happy weekend hivers !
