Hello everyone.
Thank God it's Monday and it's #needleworkmonday. I will be sharing with you the making of this straight gown outfit I made for myself in remembrance of my late sister.
My sister died 3years ago due to her health issues, she was very sick and eventually died after all treatment given to her was fruitless, at the time of her challenges, I was not opportuned to be with her, she was taken to my mom for better care, but eventually she died and was buried, last year, I went home for Christmas and I was given this fabric by my mom, she said she found some fabrics at my late sister's house when they went to clear up her things from the apartment, as the culture here, only the younger ones to the deceased can put on anything left behind, and since I'm the youngest of the family, the fabric was kept for me, I brought the fabric all the way down to my place since then, I kept it in my bag where I usually keep my left over fabric.
On 10th of this month is my birthday while my sister died on the 13th of October 2020, this year, on the exact date she died, I remembered I was given a fabric that belongs to her and I thought of making an outfit with it for her remembrance. I decided to make a straight gown with the 3yards fabric with a stylish design in front with lace fabric.
Cutting and sewing process
With my measurement, I measured the waistline, hip line and full length measurement from the waistline to the full length of the gown, after which I marked out the horizontal measurement for the front part on the folded fabric
Cutting out the measurement I took on the fabric for the front part, it was placed on another folded fabric to cut out the back part with zipper allowance, butt ease, and slit at the back.
The lower part were sewn together with lining and set aside for the upper bodice to be drafted.
To cut the upper bodice, I drafted out the pattern on a brown paper before transferring it to the main fabric with the same shape.
The front was padded with warden for the bust area to be firm and it was sewn to with matching colour lining.
On the front part, I made a stylish design using a matching color lace fabric and it was sewn to the front bodice, the front and back were sewn together as well.
The upper bodice were sewn to the lower part of the dress and I have a sleeveless gown with the zipper at the back.
Finally, I cut out a basic long sleeve and sew it to the armhole circumference using my long sleeve measurement.
This is me wearing the outfit I made with my late sister's fabric for her remembrance, I know that her spirit will be glad with me for putting her fabric into good use. I pray that her soul continues to rest in peace.
