There's No Project Without Hassles.

Hello needle workers..

How are you doing? πŸ€—πŸ€—

It's a beautiful Monday, a new mindset and a new page.

Have you almost finished a project only to find out that something wasn't right about it and then you have to start all over again?

We face challenges as needleworkers but it doesn't stop us from trying something challenging, does it?

Well, last week I made a dress for a client and I worked with the Mikado fabrics but in different colors.

The materials I used for this project are;

Mikado (Black & Gold)
Zipper (invisible)
Thread (matching colours)

The dress is very classy and stylish which requires a lot of patience and focus to get it right.

I had to zoom the original style countless times to be sure that I was on the right path.

The challenge I faced while making this fabric was having to change the thread in intervals just to give it a neat finish.

As you read further, you'll also find out other challenges I encountered.

Here are the fabrics.

IMG_20230906_175638_137.jpg

I started with the simple part which was the lower bodice, I marked out the hip, waist and gown length and then I cut it out.

I moved to the sleeve part which was also very easy to cut, I marked out the sleeve length, and the armhole, and then I cut it out.

Now, the real journey began. The dress has drapes on the upper bodice and the lower bodice.

I started by marking out the upper bodice and looking for the perfect place to drape which I secured using a pin.

I draped the side as well after making a slit from the waistline down to the length as seen in the picture.

Here I have successfully cut out the neckline even though I don't know the name of this kind of neckline😏.

Here is what it looks like.

IMG_20230906_183001_201.jpg

I started with the golden yellow thread as the upper part needs a matching thread and then I began to stitch gradually with my machine.

IMG_20230907_152148_920.jpg

After turning the neckline, I joined the shoulder and started to face the invisible zipper.

The invisible zipper is such a beautiful zipper but it requires a lot of time and patience to get it right and it is so fragile.

The truth is, I fixed it perfectly here it is... But......

IMG_20230907_154231_944.jpg

It got ruined when I was trying to zip it up once again after I had unzipped it.

I almost shed a tearπŸ˜ͺ, it was much of a big deal for me and then I had to look for another zipper to refix.

IMG_20230907_180017_244.jpg

Here is the new zipper, another challenge is to loosen the old zipper and then refix a new one.

But fashion designing has taught me that a mistake is not the end of a project, you still have to give it another shot.

This lesson is really valuable today most of us encounter so many challenges in our needlework that make the whole project tiring but then we must finish what we started no matter how hard it may seem.

This too has taught me to face life, when I make mistakes, I do not want to dwell on that mistake, I must get up and look for a way out because mistakes are part of life.

So here I had to fix another zipper and it also came out very well.

After all the challenges I encountered on this project, the beautiful outcome was what made me smile I forgot all the stress I went through.

Here is what it looks like.

I made a very fancy brooch to enhance this dress, just a little gift to spice up the dress.

Awwn this so so lovely, looks as if it was picked out of a magazine,

Finding an invincible zipper Is one of the aspects of making dresses I found challenging at first too, sorry you had to go through that hassle, it's so bad especially if you are tired, but you got the virtues of a fashion designer and finished it so nicely.

Well done Amie❀

Yeah, thank you so much for the encouragement, the outcome of the dress made me feel a lot better.

Very true,
Problems are real when it comes to practical works like this.

Hope needle didn't Pierce your hand?

Nice workπŸ™Œ

Haha, even if it did, it's part of my job description oh.

Thanks for coming around.

Pls don't allow needle to Pierce your hand... it'll affect me here πŸ™ˆ

Thank you so much

Amie this is a beautiful dress I love the style, if only I was this gifted to have the calm mind to sew.
You are doing well baby.❀️❀️

Thank you so much.πŸ₯°πŸ₯°πŸ₯°

It is a difficult zipper, in my experience if they have a lot of tension they open, I prefer to make a cover with the same fabric than a more resistant zipper, but the result is not as pretty as with that one haha.
The suit looked great on you and it's good that you were able to learn from your mistakes, what matters is always the final result.

You are so right, what matters most is the final result.

The invisible zipper gives an outfit a good finish but it is always fragile.

Thank you so much for visiting.

Wow!!!! This is incredible Amie!!

Good job!!

Thank you so much.

Well sorry about the stress. It is actually better for the damage to have happened while the dress is still with you.
Some client may never understand if this happened in their presence and some with rude attitude may resort to doubting your skills and pouring out negative vibe.
You did well with the dress dear and that draping is dope β€πŸ’–πŸŒΊ

You are right, many clients would not even want to understand.

Thank you so much for the kind comment.

Wow - your needlework is really amazing dearest @amiegeoffrey !! I can imagine how you felt when the zip ruined: that requires a lot of patience and breathing deeply, to keep focussed in such a moment - your advice around this is really motivating for me, as I am like a big stroppy baby when I make a big mistake: I will put a thing to the side for a long time, instead of jumping back in and making it right.. I will try to presevere more!

I am glad that my post has motivated you to persevere more, we all need perseverance to keep going.

Thank you so much ma'am for taking the time to stop by my blog, it is highly appreciated.
