For a while now, I’ve been on a vacation with my family and been taking up little crochet projects. On my list was to make headbands for my elder sister’s friend’s daughter who is about 2 years. According to my sister, any headband that gets on her head ends up missing so I needed to make a certain type of hair accessory that would be in her hair for at least the whole time she goes to school.
I really didn’t know what to do so I kept on postponing it till some days ago, @wongi shared with us really cute bows bands. Immediately I saw them, I knew they were the ones and just went ahead to make them. I made them with my little sister and she was even so happy more than I was. I enjoy our crocheting moments a lot because that’s the time we get to bond and I would never trade them for anything in this world.
Normally, it would have taken us about an hour to finish but it took us about 4 hours because we kept on talking and laughing throughout.
The materials I used were:
• Leftover yarns
• 1.60mm crochet hook
• Rubber bands
Procedure
We started by wrapping the bands with single crochet. My sister did the wrapping and she made sure to not make any be spaces be seen in the wraps. This was done just like how scrunchies get wrapped.
Whiles she was wrapping the rubber bands, I was making the body of the bow. I did that by beginning a chain of 24 and then chained additional 2(which served as a half double crochet stitch) and started making a row of half double crochet. I made 5 rows of half double crochet in all.
After my sister finished wrapping, she did the part to tie the body into two to get that bow shape. She did that by making 15 chains and then 2 rows of single crochet.
I then made the outer lining of the bow by making single crochet around the body of the bow.
After I was done, I used the separator band my sister did to tie the bow body into two. Then, whiles I was doing that, I added the wrapped band to it and tied the body into that bow shape and I was done.
The result.
I have realized that anytime I’m doing something for kids, I get so happy doing them and it’s even a plus when I’m doing it with my sister. This was so fun to make and it was even more fulfilling when the little girl saw the bow hair bands on video call and spoke the babies’ language with a smile. I knew she probably meant she loves it even though I don’t understand that language, hehe. I’m glad I got the inspiration from this amazing community and the biggest shoutout goes to @wongi.
