The funniest thing happened after I made the first bralette for one of my sisters from Grandma’s old cloth. (If you all remember, I’ve been upcycling my Grandma’s cloth into cute stuff just so everyone can have a piece of it and then we wouldn’t have to dispose the cloth even though it’s too old). All of a sudden, my sisters have come up with so many top and bralette designs that they all want from the cloth. One of them even said she wants a piece of the cloth in her wedding dress which is actually very funny because she’s only 15 years.
Anyway, after the hair scarf and bralette from the cloth, one of my sisters brought me a design of the kind of top she wanted. She wanted something for a pool party which was surprising because I’ve never even seen her attending normal parties before. Okay, nobody should tell her I said that.
She described how she wanted the top and then I got to work. I spent about an hour making this top and I was even surprised at how cute it turned out.
The materials I used were:
• 1.60mm crochet hook
• Leftover yarn
• A piece of cloth
• A pair of scissors
• Pen (Improvision)
• measuring tape
Procedure
I began by drawing and cutting the design from the cloth. It wasn’t even difficult doing this. I just had to be careful not to cut it the wrong way. I then made holes with the hook at the ends of the cloth to be able to make the stitches into the cloth.
After cutting the design out, I began the real work; crocheting the edges. I made picots and single crochet. A picot is made by making 3 or 4 chains and then slip stitching in the first chain space.
Each picot was separated by a single stitch and that’s how I got the design at the end. A picot, a single crochet, a picot, a single crochet.
I moved on to the straps that would be tied at the neck. I made about 50 chains for both sides. Yours could be more than that depending on the kind of straps you want.
I then made the lace that would be used to tie the front parts together. I made enough chains which could also be tied into a bow shape to make the top extra cute. I hid all the hanging yarns into the picot stitches and I was done.
The result
It was fun doing this because my sister kept on knocking to find out how the top was going and I also kept on telling her to wait and find out. I pranked her that I couldn’t do it and she almost cried. After I showed her the top, she was so happy. I can’t wait to see her wear it for that pool party. I know this top only means more designs from my sisters and I’m here for it.
Thank you for time.
